Social Security Office Appointment

Social Security Office appointment?

I have an appointment to go into the S/S/Office in Sept. This is to setup up a SSDI benefit for my 12 yr. old Son. His Mother is the one disabled. I was wondering if anyone has dealt with them before do the y take walk- in apts.? I understand like all Gov. Run offices it is usually a mad house there. If they do except walk- ins are there any tips, I.E. get there at a certain time, etc....I looked online to see if I could avoid the office entirely and sign up online but it looks like an office visit is required. If I am wrong or any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks!!!

How can i make an appointment at social security office ?

I don't think you can make an appointment. It is usually first come first serve (much like the DMV).

Can I come to Social Security without an appointment?

Yes you can, but be forewarned- You should show up early, preferably before the Office opens for business, because the lines will be long. The way I do it is I get there about an hour before opening, so I get in fast. They will assign you a number once you go through check in, and Security (remember- this is a Federal Office, so do not bring weapons of any type, even a simple pocket knife!). Once your number is called, you will be directed to a window (much like you go through at a DMV) where a SSI agent will answer your questions and process your claim.

Are Saturday appointments available at Social Security offices?

Sorry, no. Social Security Field Offices are not open on Saturdays, Sundays, or Federal holidays.Part of the reason why:It increases overhead costs for utilities and security. A Field Office (which is the agency term for your local offices) is not allowed to open to the public without a security guard on site since the Oklahoma City bombing. Many large metro offices had guards prior to that time.It increases personnel costs. Employees cannot legally work more than 40 hours per week without being paid overtime or earning equivalent time off. To spread out employees to provide 6 day per week coverage would mean that there would be by necessity fewer employees available to work during the week.Budgets for overtime are frequently slashed to the bone depending on Congressional action/inaction. All Federal agencies have been working without a fixed budget since the fiscal year expired 9/30/17. When agencies work under a Continuing Resolution (which they have since that date), usually no increase in any kind of spending or hiring is permitted.Social Security offices are open at times (budget permitting) for employees to work overtime on Saturdays to catch up work that they were unable to get to during the week. Because of this, a person that has business pending with SSA could receive a phone call from SSA on a Saturday, but the office is not open for business to the general public. It’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to take off work to make a trip to SSA. However, you can transact a lot of your business by the phone and by Internet. Our teleservice centers offer Nationwide coverage, and can be reached from 7 am to 7 pm. The number is 1–800–772–1213. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, there is also a toll free TTY line. You can also use this number 24/7 to use the automated system to get information.Internet services are available to you from the comfort of your home. You can apply for monthly benefits, and in some cases (depending on the type of ID issued by your State) , you may be able to replace your Social Security card online. You can download pamphlets and fact sheets, and use the Retirement calculator. Check out The United States Social Security Administration to see all the services available to you.Hope this helps you!

Are there any social security offices open on Saturday?

You can check any Social security office hours and locations here :Social Security OfficesI’ve never heard of one being open on a Saturday though

What is the correct way to make an appointment at the Social Security office?

Call 800–772–1213 and wait on hold for an actual person. Some local offices might publish their own individual phone numbers, but mine does not.How do I schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment?I abandoned the phone approach when (after 40 minutes) the system pretended to transfer me to a person but hung up instead. I decided to just show up, take a number and wait. This may work for you too, if you have a morning or afternoon to spare. Check the hours first, though. They're probably closed on Wednesday afternoon.
