Someone That Work At Dennys Help

What time is the best time to work a shift at Dennys?

Weekend's 3rd shift is pretty good, because you have the after bar crowd coming in. Sundays from noon until 3, when the church crowd comes in. During the week, I'd say breakfast and lunch crowd.

What are some useful tips for someone who is starting work at Denny's?

Make sure to ask around how management is. That is the most important question you'll need to know. If people are hesitant or tell you that its not great, go with your gut and get out. Other than that, it's a walk in the park. Team work is very important everywhere but run food if you have a second even if it's not yours. Be nice to everyone, even those who aren't your customers at that moment because they may come back and it may be your table. Treat every table like they are important to ensure they come back.

What is it like working the dinner shift at Denny’s? How are the tips? What shift do you recommend taking?

A2A - Many years ago, I worked the graveyard shift (11pm-7am) on Weds.-Sun. and on Saturday I worked from 5pm-3am(or 7am if the other server couldn’t). It worked well for me for a few reasons: 1.) I was able to take my college classes at night and shoot over to work while my days were dedicated to my son. 2.) when it was slow I was able to complete my side work (as a graveyard server it was a bit more but not by much) and then my course work. 3.) It usually picked up when the bars closed and I’d be the only server there. While the servers that bailed out early “because it was slow” thought they were getting one over on me, I enjoyed taking on the rush alone, people were pretty laid back after the bar and I got all the tables (as well as all the tips). It was harder to do alone but, definitely worth it. Overnight servers (at least back then) were paid $6.00 an hour plus tip. I averaged a few hundred a week and I made my way through college without being too overworked to spend time with my kid. I would do it again in a heartbeat, too bad, after almost 20 yrs of waitressing, my body is done.

Working as a Waitress/Host at Denny's?

The wage is probably minimum that's why if given the choice I would do the waitress position (you get tips, you're base wage will be lower, but if you don't make the state minimum wage then the restaurant has to make up the difference). I live in Ohio our state minimum wage is around 7 dollars, as at a bob evans I made around 12 an hour with the tips.

A hostess will greet people when they walk into the restaurant, ask how many people and then take them to a table (the restaurant will probably give you a seating chart so the waitress's get equal number of tables), normally each waitress is in control of 3-7 specific tables (again depends on the restaurant). You may be required to roll silverware (sorting the silverware and putting them in napkins). You also may be required to take people's money from them if there is a register at the front of the restaurant.

As a waitress...well you've been to a restaurant before, you take their order, get them drinks. Most restaurants have you type the order into a computer and it goes back to the cooks. Then you'll take their food out to them. When I was a waitress, I usually made 20% on almost every table, some hints that make people happy or piss them off. Make sure the food is right (double check what the cook gives you before you take it out), make sure the glasses don't get empty (I generally gave or offered refills at 1/2 glass). You're there to make there experience pleasant...at the same time they didn't come to the restaurant to see you. So make a joke or 2 but do not talk to your table for a long period of time and chat them up and also don't neglect them. Do not use the terms sweetie, or sweetheart or hun. For people that were my parents age or older I used sir or ma'am and for people my age I didn't use any term. There was a study that said write "thank you" at the top of the receipt, if you're a girl do a smiley face and if you're a boy don't do a smiley face (maximizes your tip). Have fun with it and make sure you check back on your table about a minute after they get there food (let's them try it and if they forget they need ketcup or something they can ask for it)

Good luck!

Dine and Dash at Denny's?

Here's what probably happened. The restaurant got the license plate number of the car and turned it over to the police. The police will take a statement and probably issue an arrest warrant. Whether or not they follow up on that warrant I don't know, but the next time the driver gets pulled over, he'll probably get taken downtown. Hope the Grand Slam was worth it.

Your friends need to go back to Dennys, make up some lame excuse that no one will believe, then apologize and pay the bill and leave a generous tip for the waitress. It's not fun, but it beats getting the nervous sweats every time a cop car pulls up behind you at a stoplight.

What are the best aspects of working at Denny's?

I began working for a Denny's in Oceanside CA when I was 18. When I started I had had no previous waitressing experience. I worked for that Denny's for over 10 years and I learned a lot about the food and beverage industry I also learned a lot about customer service. The company wasn't the greatest to work for and unless you were management or above didn't offer very many incentives. They also took away the health insurance from any employee below management-level while I was seven months pregnant with my son. luckily my husband was in the military and we had pretty good benefit unfortunately that was not the case for many others. Over all the people I worked with became like family to me my general manager became family to me. I met my husband there my best friend, my matron of honor, and couldn't imagine what my life would be like had I not started working at that store.. overall it's a great place to get experience and also great place to meet people who could could potentially become lifetime friends and like family to you. Like any place it depends on the people it depends on management and it depends on your fellow coworkers.

What is Denny's known for?

Bad food. Poor service. Poorly lit interiors. Stained carpeting. They USED to be bigger, better lit. They had great post-drunk food. The Denny’s hot dog or chili dog. The Americana sandwich, which was ham, turkey and a tomato slice piled on a piece of toast and smothered in sharp cheddar cheese sauce. The Bacon Cheeseburger. And the Eggs Benedict, which traded out the hollandaise sauce for Denny’s cheese sauce. The coffee cups were bigger.

Denny's interview?

Some questions they'd ask me and things I would need for the job? Can someone tell me how their interview went? It's my first interview and I'm pretty nervous/scared and don't know what to expect :( I applied for dishwasher/host and just want to be prepared for the interview, do you guys have any tips for me? Anything would help!

What does the slam mean in a Denny's "slam"?

The original Grand Slam was/is 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage and 2 pancakes. So why “slam?” Well, a grand slam in baseball is when you’ve got the bases loaded (a person on every base) and the next batter up knocks that ball straight out of the park, bringing everyone home and scoring four runs with one hit. It’s the best thing that can happen in baseball. The eggs, bacon, and sausage are your runners on bases, then the pancakes came in and knocked it out of the park. It’s the best thing that can happen to breakfast.Over the years, Denny’s, known for their “grand slam” breakfast, has incorporated the term “slam” into a lot of their breakfast dishes, likely just for the branding with their signature breakfast dish.
