90's songs that reflects 90's culture/society?
The Shamen - Ebenezer Goode They managed to get a song into the UK charts that has the chorus "E's are good" by disguising it as 'Ebenezer Goode'. Once people noticed it was too late. It reflects the emerging club scene / drug culture of the 90's. The lyrics are all about Ecstacy. Puff Daddy - I'll Be Missing You This tune kind of spelled an end to the real gangsta rap era when artists lives were truly in danger. It reflects a change of attitude in hip hop I'd say and it a great tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. Fresh Prince - Boom Shake Shake The Room In the 90's Will Smith was becoming a big star and proved that actors could move successfully into the music business. This song is typically 90's. Oasis - Wonderwall The peak of the Brit Pop 'Cool Brittania' era, Oasis were the next big thing since the Beatle and there music was very 90's. Niravan - Smell Like Teen Spirit Too much to write about this one. Hope thats some ok ideas????
How does a hero reflect society's values?
Tomorrow we have a time writing for English and the prompt is: "A hero can take many forms, but he or she always reflects society's values. Select a work of literature, a song, a TV show or movie, a current event, or an historical event and focusing on one hero, write an essay analyzing how that hero reflects his or her society's. Do not merely summarize plot or describe the situation." BUTTTT, i don't know what to write about! HELP!? Any ideas? Thanks in advance! :)

Modern songs with a man vs society theme?
Not sure if these are what you had in mind: Me Against the World - The Apollo Effect [2011] [I know it’s not your fight to win It’s mine to lose or watch unfold It’s all I can do to keep my head on straight Why is it me against the world? Why do you feel the need to help me When you know I’m better off alone?... .....My pride is deadly to the touch And not so wise to give it an inch I won’t go down in flames my friend It’s always me against the world] When You're Young - Doors Down [2011] [So far away from knowing where I am going I am trying hard to find out who I am They all say that I don't know what I am doing I say they don't hardly understand... ....You give what you give cause they make you Trapped inside a place that won't take you And they want you to be what they make you It's already over and done When you're young] From Yesterday - 30 Seconds to Mars [2005] Note: One swear word appears once. [On a mountain he sits, not of gold but of sh-- Through the blood he can look, see the life that he took From a council of one He'll decide when he's done with the innocent On his face is a map of the world] Better Days - Saliva [2011] [Done time and mind Tried to hide it all inside Did the best that could Even when I couldn't get it right No one sees the scars when it's over I turn the page of the rage so there's closure Take a lesson from the man who's seen it all]

Which song reflects your life currently?
"Eclipse" by Pink Floyd pretty much sums everything up for me.All that you touch All that you see All that you taste All you feel. All that you love All that you hate All you distrust All you save. All that you give All that you deal All that you buy Beg, borrow or steal. All you create All you destroy All that you do All that you say. All that you eat And everyone you meet All that you slight And everyone you fight. All that is now All that is gone All that's to come And everything under the sun is in tune But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

How do folk songs represent the culture of contemporary society?
Folk songs represent the culture of contemporary society just as they represent the culture of past generations. How can they do both? Folk songs are most often written to tell a story about the human condition, and many of these stories are about finding or losing love, deceit, war, and natural disasters. A cheating lover is something that contemporary composers write about, and it is a popular subject of folksongs around the globe, as is star crossed love. War is still a lose-lose proposition for all sides just as it was centuries past. These common themes tie us to our ancestors through song. Contemporary folk songs are being composed every day by people like Kate Rusby, Emily Smith, Julie Miller, and John Prine just to name a few. Though the theme may be the same, the props within the song are updated- cell phones, cars, trains, buses, etc.Folk songs record history, the human condition, and language. I teach elementary general music using a curriculum based on folk songs from around the world. These songs have survived centuries because they contain quality text written to quality music.
