State Laws Regarding The Practice Of Acupuncture

Can I practice acupressure in california without a license since there does not exist a licensing board fo?

Firstly, Neil took a whole 20 seconds to look up "Acupuncture" NOT Acupressure! So he is incorrect. Please look up the S.B. 577 – California Health Freedom Bill .
Your city may require you to get a business license though, so check that.
Some acupressure IS considered massage therapy and you must have a state license for that. Contact the California State Board for licensing massgae therapists and check.
Hope this helps

Piercing state laws in Illinois?

I'm going to go to Illinois soon, and I want to get angelbites done. The only thing is, I live in Wisconsin and it's illegal to pierce a minor, even if they have parental consent (you have to be 16, and the consent). So I was wondering, is it legal in Illinois to get pierced with parental consent?
Thank you all :)

Why is the practice of " Radionics " illegal in the U.S.A.?

As with many other alternative medicine modalities (i.e. Reiki, acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, Chinese medicine, reflexology, etc.), supporters of radionics have been unable to provide any sort of evidence that their method of healing actually heals. For that reason, they are not allowed to make any claims regarding the efficacy of their treatment.

This section on the Wiki page is pretty funny:

Can nurses perform acupressure?

As a nurse trained in acupressure (and other forms of massage), I can tell you "yes" they can do it in a hospital setting, but it requires specialized massage training. I'm sure you have heard of nurses giving back rubs to their patients, so being able to give other therapeutic forms of touch therapy is certainly reasonable. However, very few hospitals would hire a nurse JUST to do that, so finding a nurse that can do it, then finding one that has the time to do it, would not be easy.

Do I need a state license (besides BCIA certification) to practice neurofeedback?

That is a state by state question, so you’ll need to contact the licensing board for the state you live in. As far as I know, there are no states that require BCIA certification, but I certainly haven’t researched all 50 states. You’ll likely need to talk to them about neurofeedback as being eeg-based biofeedback, since biofeedback is the category the medical community assigns neurofeedback to.That’s for other neurofeedback systems, which are considered to be medical devices. NeurOptimal® Dynamical Neurofeedback®, the system we use, has been designated by the US FDA to be a General Wellness Product, so I think it is likely that state regulations would not apply. You should still research that. And contact me if you have interest in NeurOptimal® - which I believe is the best neurofeedback available - and much easier to learn to do.newyorkneurofeedback.com

How can Chiropractors apply the same treatment (popping) for a wide variety of different issues?

It is very common in alternative medicine practices to have what is called a panacea. This is when one treatment is said to cure many illnesses. For example in acupuncture the insertion of needles is used to treat many diseases using the theory that there is a form of chi energy which flows throughout a person's body and needs to be released through proper needle insertion. Similarly chiropractic base itself on the hypothesis that there was a nerve energy which traveled from the brain to the spinal cord and out through the nerves to the entire body. Early chiropractors believed that they could detect restrictions in the flow of this nerve energy and surmised that depending on the part of the body supplied by the nerve root these alleged impingements could result in a weakness that manifested as a disease. Chiropractors were very careful not to state that they were treating diseases because this would open them to the charge of practicing medicine without a license. Instead, chiropractors successfully lobbied to get State practice laws which allowed them to treat patients by performing various manipulations on their body in hopes of removing this assumed impingement of nerve energy. In modern times it has been found that the manipulations chiropractors do function more as nerve stimulation and do not actually relieve impingement. Moreover it does not cure disease. Unfortunately many chiropractors still practice under the false notion that their manipulations are necessary to prevent diseases.

Where can one buy acupressure needles for self treatment? How can it be made at home and should the needles be thrown away for one time usage or can it be cleaned and used again?

First of all, acuPRESSURE does not involve the use of needles, just finger pressure. You can do that easily at home.Acupuncture needles are only for sale to licensed acupuncturist and other licensed medical professionals who use them in their clinics.AND, there is NO safe way to sterilize an acupuncture needle. They are all disposable nowadays, and must never be re-used, for a variety of reasons. Licensed acupuncturists actually take a special course called Clean Needle Technique to be certified in keeping people safe from infections by acupuncture needles. The majority of injuries and infections cause by acupuncture are the result of untrained people using acupuncture needles in unsafe ways, usually in countries other than the US and places where acupuncturists are highly trained to prevent injury.
