What are your top 10 favorite music artists or bands?

Ok I've been waiting for a Q like this. I'm gonna name THE best of all time, because of their achievements in the music business.10 GreendayLet's admit, this band of hard punk rockers changed the way we think of 90s Rock. They bent the rules and kept the adrenaline running for all their fans for many years.9 RihannaI don't judge an artist by the #1 Hits (Only wow factor). But Rihanna has many of them, Grammy's, etc.8 Jimmy HendrixHe bent the rules of guitar playing and became the greatest guitar player to ever live.7 Bruno MarsThis may come to a surprise but it really shouldn't, within 5 years Bruno became THE most recognizable voice of the 2000s and is the Prince of pop6 BeyonceWith many many awards and records, Beyonce has changed the way people think of female fashion in music.5 Janet JacksonBeing the sister of the greatest music artist to ever live, Janet has her own amazing dance talent, vocals, and has won many MTV awards and records for it.4 Madonna/PrinceI had to put these two down for good measures, both no greater than the other. One a great dancer, guitarist, and singer that was the inspiration of many fashion designs in music. The other a great vocalist, dancer, and inspiration for female music.3 Elvis PresleyNot named the king of Rock and roll for no reason. This guy is the greatest Rock and roll artist, he popularized many many black artists songs and became known as The King, as he also starred in many movies along the way.2 The BeatlesThis may also come to a surprise but once again, it shouldn't. These guys broke barriers between the UK and US and within a year were known as one of the greatest bands of all time. Today… they are. But MUSIC artist (Achievements and success wise), that is for another artist.1 Michael JacksonWith more awards won than any other artist or band to ever live, this guy is not only the biggest humanitarian he is the greatest entertainer and music artist to ever live. He wasn't a pedophile and this was proven in a video called the Michael Jackson Rebuttal on YouTube made by the Rageaholic, but he has won 39 Guinness world records 26 American Music Awards 16 World Music Awards 13 Grammys 18 MTV VMA awards 6 Brit awards 5 Billboard Awards 12 Soul Train awards and many many more. He is the greatest music icon of all time.

What are your favorite pop punk and alt rock bands?

I realize “pop punk” often refers to bands that came along in the 90s (like Green Day), but there were some great bands in first wave punk with strong pop hooks and influences. The Buzzcocks are great: pop-influenced punk from the late 70s. Lots of sneer and choppy guitar … and catchy melodies:And the Dickies! When I first heard Green Day in the 90s, I thought “But … this is just the Dickies all over again”:The Saints, a Brisbane-based punk band, were employing the fast tempos, raucous vocals and "buzz saw" guitar that characterized early punk rock at the same time the Ramones were. Their single I’m Stranded from 1976 pre-dates vinyl releases by UK punk bands like the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, The Damned and The Clash. And it’s super catchy:The Sweet are great too! Not technically “pop punk.” They came out of British glam rock, and have a great, loud, crunchy sound with really catchy melodies. The song Ballroom Blitz has one of the best song intros of all time in my opinion. (“Are you ready, Steve?” “Uh-huh”):Alt-rock … Meat Puppets! They started out as a punk band in 1980, moved into psychedelic and country, loved ZZ Top, and carved out their own unique sound. They were an influence on a number of the later grunge bands. They still tour and are great live:

Who is your favorite Indie rock band/bands and why?

This is basically going to come down to your definition of "Indie rock" -- if you mean it purely as a genre -- what is getting played on "indie rock radio" -- the question is somewhat uninteresting because those bands are typically no more "independent" than any other pop/rock band.   (Not to pick on Amy Li but her inclusion of Depeche Mode -- who were big label signees from day one, and one of the more commercially astute and successful bands of their era -- shows just how meaningless the term "indie" has become).   If you want to talk about bands that have truly maintained "indie" status, I'd offer The Damnwells.   Musically these New-York based guys are more alt.country than the jangly-droney-shouty axis that a lot of indie-radio sounds pivot on.  But as far as "indie nature", almost nobody has these guys beat.  After an abortive early relationship with Epic records, they released their third album for free on line, and financed their next projects directly from fans (via the PledgeMusic platform).  They have made great use of social media and other direct-communication paths to maintain and build a world-wide fanbase.  There is a good documentary on Netflix about the band called Golden Days, but I'd highly recommend just finding their music.

Is The Neighbourhood an alternative rock band?

It used to be at their first album, but even then they were not exactly alternative .They were more like a r&b-alternative-pop thing.
