Switching From Seroquel Xr Back To Regular Seroquel

Vyvanse and Seroquel XR?

I had a terrible time taking Seroquel. Everyone reacts differently to psych meds, but I think doctors should be very careful about prescribing Seroquel. You don't need an antipsychotic to help you to sleep!

My first month on Seroquel was ok. In the 2nd month, my hips became very stiff, and just walking down the street was difficult. (I do stretching and yoga almost everyday, so this stiffness was very strange.) Then my feet and ankle swelled up like balloons (edema). In two months on Seroquel, I gained 20 pounds. After that, my doctor and I agreed that I should stop taking it.

As I said, people react differently to psych meds. Your experience with Seroquel might be better than mine. However, I don't think increasing Vyvanse is the best treatment. That is likely to add to your sleep problems. You wrote that you feel tired all day since starting the Seroquel. In my opinion, you should ask your doctor to take you off Seroquel and put you on a sleep aid that does not have so many side effects. There are so many meds to help you sleep. Some of them can be habit forming (like valium, klonopin and similar long-acting benzodiazepines). However, there are sleep aids that are not habit forming. I wish you well.

P.S. If you really don't want to go off Seroquel, at least talk to your doctor about taking it at a lower dosage. You could probably do well at 100 to 150 mg.

Why can't I wake up after taking Seroquel?

I was just prescribed 50mg Seroquel XR for bipolar disorder and was told to take at bed time. Typically, I go to sleep around 11pm and wake up around 8am without an alarm. I took my first dose last night going to sleep around 12am and was forced awake from my dog at 11am (which felt like 3am) and went back to sleep until 1:30pm when I forced myself out of bed.

I made it downstairs, made coffee and sat on the couch to watch TV and wake up before I found myself asleep again until 4pm. Still, I cannot seem to fully wake up. I do not feel like a functioning person and cannot imagine having to drive to class like this even after 2 more cups of coffee.

I would love to know why this is happening and if this is at all normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How long does seroquel xr usually take to work?

My experience with Seroquel XR was similar. I was prescribed 50-100mg/day to be be taken at night. At the time, I was taking Abilify, xanax and an antidepressant (forgot which one) for psychotic major depression with an anxiety/panic disorder. I'm not bipolar. I was going through a 'suicidal phase' and I had refused inpatient treatment. Because I was so bad off, my psychiatrist said the only thing he could do was keep me sedated for awhile until I felt better. The Seroquel was given to me for that purpose - to knock me out.

I only took it for about a month but that was the effect it had on me the entire time. Some days it knocked me out so fast that I would wake up the next day and wonder what the hell had happened. I would have thought that after a few weeks it wouldn't have effected me like that but it did.

Does anyone know for certain if Seroquel XR will decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills?

There is no drug interaction listed.

Seroquel like many antipsychotic drugs promotes prolactin secretion, which tends to lower sex hormone production and lower fertility. Long term prolactin levels promote breast cancer and lower bone density.

Drugs like seroquel (atypical and typical antipsychotics ) promote weight gain and diabetes. The less the better, and if you can avoid it all together you are better off.

I do not know about your particular situation but these drugs are very expensive and tend to be over prescribed.

Benzodiazepines like Xanax can cut down on the clearance of the estrogen and progestin in oral contraceptives.
