My question is, why would something need to be resorted in the same facility three times? I live in Manhattan, so calling the local post office isn't exactly an option. The sorting facility is roughly 3 miles from my house and takes about 30 minutes to get to by subway. The post office from which packages are delivered to my building is probably an hour from the facility. Why exactly is this taking so long?

What does "Processed Through Sort Facility" mean for USPS?

Some sorting areas are small. like the ones behind the scenes at you local Post Office. The clerks do the final sort so  the mail is ready by house number for the carrier to go to each house and deliver the mail. The main hub for mail processing is where the big machines automatically sort the mail with the use of scanners to read the addresses and every letter or package goes to a bin ready to be sent off on truck to the next destination or your local Post office. The large facilities run 24 hours a day with the lightest work done during the day, if needed to clean up for the afternoon shift. The afternoon shifts take care of all out going mail and prepare it for the planes and truck to get it to the next destination. If you are near a mail processing plant you might be able to get a tour of this building to see how the mail is actually worked. The Post Office does provide tours for certain groups like (the boy Scouts).

FedEx Package tracking says "In Transit, at destination sort facility, then has my city and state below. What does that mean exactly?

FedEx Package tracking says "In Transit, at destination sort facility, then has my city and state below. Does this mean I will receive the item I purchased tomorrow being that it reads that it is already in my city? What exactly is a "Sort Facility"? and why is it "In Transit" if it's already in my city already?

Mail processed through the same sort facility twice?

i express overnight shipped a perishable package yesterday afternoon, early this morning the tracking number showed it was processed through spokane washington sort facility at 7:30 am which is like 2 hours from the destination it is going to. then it departed spokane washington sort facility. BUT it now shows it was processed through spokane sort facility yet again at 3:10pm. i would think i should have been delivered by now. whats the deal here? does the tracking take a little bit to register on usps website?

USPS tracking says depart from my city?

USPS and their tracking is HORRIBLE! No wonder they're going bankrupt. They can't keep up with the times.
Really, there's no way of really knowing with these idiots. If it departed the sort facility, it is going to be out for delivery tomorrow (Monday). Departed just means it's ready to be put on the truck. Tomorrow (if they update the tracking information) it should say OUT FOR DELIVERY.

Don't worry. I've had packages show up on my door when USPS provided no tracking information during the entire shipment. Then I go check and it says it was delivered.

It should be there Monday.

USPS tracking status "Your item has been processed through our sort facility in ISC NEW YORK NY" - What is it?

Hello.

I've sent a package to the United States about 2 weeks ago.
According to USPS website, it arrived in the states in July 24 - there is only one update in the tracking number, and since the July 24 (7 days ago) there hasn't been a single new update. When will the package be transported to the addressee?
