Thick White Smoke From Exhaust

White smoke from exhaust?

I'm reading that white smoke coming from an exhaust means a blown head gasket. I see a lot of cars with white smoke coming from the exhaust, does this mean all these cars have blown head gaskets. When I start my car on a cold morning, I get a small amount of white smoke from the exhaust, sometimes there is more smoke than other times. It usually goes away after I start driving but sometimes I will Look back and see the smoke out my back window but it only lasts for a minute. I have a small car, 2.4 L engine. 2007 model 28K miles. All fluids seem to be ok, oil looks good, Tranny fluid looks good coolant looks good. I am taking the car to the dealer Monday so that they can perform a compression and leak test. Do you guys think I may have a blown head gasket? Do you know what the ballpark figure is to fix this. I still have 34K miles manufacturer warranty (Kia) and an extended warranty to 100K. Should this be covered under one of those?

Please..any help..

What is the cause of white smoke from the exhaust and fuel smell?

White smoke and the smell of raw gas out the exhaust. Is a definite sign of running rich.Condensation well mostly disappear. Along with not having the smell of gas vapors. Once the engine reaches operating temp. Are there any check engine lights displaying. From the ECU/PMC throwing a error code. Causing the engine to run limp mode? When was the last time the fuel pressure was checked? Too much will extra gas, pass through the injectors. Much like changing the Injector Pulse Width MAP.A hanging injector will mostly likely cause cylinder(s) to fill with gas. Depending on what intake valves are open, along with intake manifold. The fuel system stays pressurized, even tho fuel pump is shut off. Allowing the pressure to bleed off through the injector(s). By keeping the system under pressure. Allows for quicker starts. Because there is no lag, while the fuel pump rebuilds the lost pressure.Running that rich can/will cause the oil film. On the cylinder walls, getting washed off leading to scuffing.I could see the white smoke, smell the gas. When adjusting fuel pressure on my super charged CRX Sir, may it R.I.P....

White smoke from exhaust after starting fluid use?

after a cars sit for months the oils and all leak down the valve stem seals and load up in the cylinders after you get it running it will take a while to straighten up, the fuel is also bad by now add some octane booster to it, plus an additive for water in the fuel, I have cranked a car and NURSED it with little shots of starting fluid over and over to keep it runnig till it stayed fired up, have you cleaned or replace the spark plugs do you know what is wrong or did it just stop?

Can a bad thermostat cause white smoke?

Not directly. If the thermostat stuck shut, it could have overheated the car and blown the head gasket as mentioned in the previous post. It's much more common for them to stick open and make the car run too cool.
If you have large clouds of thick white smoke that hang in the air behind the car (a little wisp that fades quickly is normal when it's cold outside) you have a blown head gasket, a bad intake manifold gasket, or a cracked head or block. None of these are a cheap fix.

Is there an additive i can use to stop white smoke from exhaust?

If you have white smoke your probably burning anti freeze or if its whitish blue your burning oil. If its light smoke and bluish this is normal on older cars b/c the piston rings don't seal as well and burning oil is natural. If its just white you might have a cracked head or blown head gasket which are pricey repairs and driving and ignoring them will result in engine failure.

White, billowing smoke coming from exhaust of 2003 Saab 9-3! What's wrong?

My turbo-engined Saab 9-3 is puffing out copious amounts of white smoke upon starting the car. The smoke is coming from the tailpipe (or something in the rear of the car). It smells like something is burning and its a thick, white smoke. There is no sweet smell (so I don't believe it is burning antifreeze). I am wondering if it is due to transmission fluid burning (due to the color and smell and a recently replaced transmission). I am not expert on cars, but I have already poured a fortune into the car for a used transmission ($2750). Had to replace transmission because the car kept slipping in and out of gear with "Gearbox malfunction. Contact Saab service" on my information panel back in 2009. Since then, the car has been in the shop more frequently than in my driveway! Could the smoke be from burning transmission fluid? If so, how could that be fixed? Aside from paying big bucks for diagnostic tests at the dealership, is there a way to tell what could be wrong, just by looking at the smoke? I need help and would appreciate any opinion, technique or idea for diagnostic test!
P.S. the car still drives, i just can't see behind me because of all the white smoke :(
