Do you hate light sleepers?

I don't know really. Since I'm definitely not a light sleeper I wouldn't even notice if a bomb exploded under me bed.

How can one learn to be a light sleeper?

In my case it was awareness. There may be rare times you need to be hyper alert, case in point when my son was little tyke, like 18 months old, he was in the hospital with penomia and recovering in a crib. To my surprise, In the middle of the night he climbs out and jumps off the side rails, and to my total astonishment I jumped up and litterly caught him mid air! That's when it's good to be a light sleeper. Nothing deeper than a mother's livr for her babies. It is definitely not good to make your body be hyper alert or become a light sleeper on a regular basis, you could be doing your body more harm than good and develop a serous sleeping disorder. Being a deep sleeper is critical because your body needs the rest. When you a sleeping deeply, you are in the most relaxed state when all your muscles go limp and your body's cells are repairing themselves. That is actually strengthening your immune system which is what you need to prevent disease.Just imagine not getting enough sleep is like driving your car without a break. Your car will eventually break down and not last as long because you were so hard on it. The same with your body. You need to give it rest so it can perform better and last longer.

Can you train yourself to be a light sleeper?

Baby monitor very loud and right next to your head! Sometimes I would just put it on the pillow-my husband worked nights at the time, so I could do it. I wanted to be able to hear my kids breathe! Soon you will develop what I call "Mommy hearing"! , in your case it will be "Daddy hearing" Good luck!

What is the best type of quiet fan for a light sleeper?

Can light sleepers adjust to street noise?

Having lived in Detroit, Minneapolis, Tulsa, and other noisy places, I can tell you that you will surely be able to adapt to the background noise. Even the sirens will fade from your notice over time, as you get used to the sounds. You will sleep right through most of it.At first, I would suggest that you use a masking sound to help raise your hearing threshold, so that you do not perceive the street noise so loudly. The masking sound will also compete with the street noise, making it less likely to disturb your sleep.Ear plugs can also be a great friend on those nights that the noise is just getting to you. Not surprisingly, we get a lot of questions related to sleep and the use of ear plugs. Here is a detailed article that will provide you with more advice on how to get a good night’s sleep in a noisy place: NPSF™ Are you trying to sleep in a noisy place or with a loud snoring partner?Be well…and do the right thing.Tom

Are you a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper or something in between, and how has it caused you benefits or problems and how have you (and if you have one, a SO) dealt with it?

I used to be an unbelievably heavy sleeper. I once slept through a fire alarm at an apartment complex I lived in. I came to rely heavily on my young kids and (later) animals to alert me.Nowadays, however, I am an extremely light sleeper. I’ve come to love YouTube for 12 hour rain sounds which help drown out the noises of the house (adult kids and pets). My hubby and I live in separate houses (same property), so that’s never been a problem for us except for when we travel. When we have the foresight enough, we get separate beds (it also helps keep him safe from me beating him up in my sleep lol)My ex-husband used to always insist on me and the kids going to sleep when he did. He was a very light sleeper and having me join him later would wake him every time. I resented him for his rigidness regarding bed times (that’s not what killed our marriage though!) Now that I’m a light sleeper, I understand what he went through a little better.

I am a very light sleeper; I wake up from the weakest noises that the other home residents who wake up before me make. Sleeping with music is not comfortable because of the earplugs, also the music interrupts my falling asleep. What can I do?

In my experience most light sleepers actually lead stressful lives and are usually very clueless about how it affects them. The way you phrased your question makes me think its your issue as well. As other pointed out - find your "personal" ways to relax, but not only before going to sleep, find your stress points in life and try to reduce them. Explore this further by self analysis and self-reflection. This might not be a viable option, but in theory you could find accommodation with no neighbors. Thanks for the A2A.

What tips can you offer to a light sleeper who's in a noisy environment?

Hi, you can mask them out, as moving is out of question.Generally the use of white noise, soothing noises from trains, rainforest, even ocean waves. or you can get an ear plugs which can help block the noise out.If you want to use other noise to mask the noisy environment.Have a listen to the youtube link I posted below. it has the rain noises on the background, which helps tremendously in calming you down.
