Actually Deberry vs US actually is a "win" for the police, but it affirms that fact that merely carrying a firearm does not give rise to reasonable suspicion to stop a person. Idiots like this moron use things like that to "bait" the police into confrontations that are "no win' situations. Lots of assholes like to bait the police. The problem is that the public becomes alarmed when they see people carrying guns in public, and "open carry" is legal, but quite often frightening. I am a second amendment proponent, but I also think that all nuts and extremists are wrong. There are places, like the state of Illinois, with restrictive gun laws, where the situation would be reversed and the police would have ample opportunity to arrest. Personally, I would not have bothered him if he was "open carrying" with a proper holster. But carrying a firearm around in your hand creates a dangerous (or at least hazardous) condition, and I would have locked him up for that. Fools who provoke confrontations merely to make a point take dangerous chances. I have worked with lots of policemen who might have judged that activity as a prelude to an armed assault, and blown the kid to kingdom come. You see the second amendment is a good thing, but people who have no common sense feel a need to pervert it. Guns are dangerous, I know, I have carried one every day for over 40 years. In the hands of good people, they are a valuable tool. In the hands of fools and lunatics, they are disaster waiting to happen.
Why don't Americans care for each other?
As someone that works in the law enforcement field I apologize for that judge's mistreatment of you. So many people in my field become desensitized to the pain that crime causes the victims, and it's a shame. I've seen it myself first hand and it's sick. Don't let that stupid judge's reaction hinder your healing. Be strong... in the end it's your strength and courage that will help you heal. In the end no punishment given to a dirt bag will heal you.
