I think that Winnie would be a mare name. I know a horse names Dakota, she's female and SOOOO beautiful. Dakota is kindof unisex though, it would work for either. love the name Dakota!!!

I really like the name Winnie, not Winifred, just Winnie. I'm worried that it's too nicknamey by it's self. My grandma's name is Winifred and I always thought Winnie was the cutest name.

i love Winnie & am sad to see all of the negative comments on it! i've never heard it related to Winnie the Pooh. & besides, don't all children love him? they won't tease her for that & by the time they've grown out of loving him, they'll most likely be growin out of the teasing other kids because of their names stage. i don't think that's a big problem at all. my friend named her daughter Winni because she grew up on a lake called Winnipesaukee. i like the meaning behind that & love the name. her little Winni has gotten along with that name just fine. so in all, i love it & definitely think you should use it! ♥
