Went To The Pool With Contact Lenses In

Can I wear contact lenses at the pool?

I do, most of my patients who swim do and almost all serious swimmers with a significant correction do. But you should be aware that there is a serious risk of eye infection that can be serious so it is important to try and minimize that risk. This is done by wearing swim goggles to minimize contact with the pool or sea water and by using one day disposable contacts. Salt water tend to loosen the fit of the contacts and fresh water tends to tighten it. If you take a shower you may find the contacts tighten on your eye and are hard to remove unless you wait a while for your tears to loosen the lens. Contact with unsterile water has the risk of amoeba infection which can be dangerous and difficult to treat.Bottom line… the risk of infection while swimming in contacts is small but worrisome. But my feeling is that the risk of injury from not seeing well and stepping on something may be greater. On balance I feel the advantages outweigh the disadvantages but you will find many eye doctors will have a contrary opinion.

Should I wear my contact lenses to a pool party?

I'm going to a pool party today and even though I have poor vision, Im not so sure I should bring my contact lenses... My friends and I are probably gonna splash eachother non-stop. I have the monthly contacts.

Swam with contact lenses...!!!?

So guys I'm really freaking out. I went to the pool today and I was wearing contacts and I know that some got into my eye because I could feel it. So I'm really worried about getting an infection by those microbes or amoebas or something. Can I get an infection from chlorinated pool water? I threw out my contacts as soon as I got out of the pool and I even made myself cry (if that even helps...) my eyes are just a bit red but I think that's from the chlorine. Help?

How can you find contact lenses lost in a pool?

I think you should buy a new pair, because even if you find it back, the chances are rather high you cannot use it anymore.

But the reason I respond is to warn you about wearing contact lenses in pools, lakes, rivers, and seas. Such water is usually full of bacteria, which could stick to the lens or get stuck between the lens and your eye. As a consequence, you can easily get an eye infection due to these bacteria’s (and maybe other dirt).

Besides that, it is very cheap to purchase swimming goggles with power (or full prescription). Sometimes you can buy them for under $ 20 (including delivery costs), like these: http://www.smartbuyglasses.com/frame-lens-deals/Swimming-Goggles/ONO-WG1300_B_C-Light-Blue-62177.html

I am convinced that wearing such goggles is much more convenient than running the risk of losing your contact lenses.

Hope this helps.

Can you wear day contact lenses for swimming?

I'm going against the grain here and say yes, you could, but you should wear swim goggles over your eyes, because if you do open your eyes under water the lenses could wash out of your eyes, and then what's the point of having worn them into the water in the first place?A few caveats here:This would only apply to swimming in decontaminated pools. The risk of infection (especially acanthamoeba) in lakes, ponds, ocean, would otherwise be too high.As soon as you leave the water, The contacts would have to be removed (wash your hands first) and disposed of, the eyes thoroughly rinsed with sterile saline, and new contacts not put in for 30–60 minutes. There's still a risk, but probably not much more than wearing your contacts anyway. It could be more of a pain to do that than it's worth but…Disclaimer: This is not meant as medical advice. See your eye doctor for medical advice. This a hypothetical situation involving a hypothetical healthy eye, hypothetical clean contacts, hypothetical clean pool, etc.

Swimming with contact lenses?

Tomorrow my family and I are going on a vacation to Mexico. We will be snorkeling and swimming in the ocean, and swimming in pools and hot tubs. I wear soft contact lenses. The thing is, when I first got my contacts, my optometrist told me that I shouldn't swim with them in. Is there a safe way to swim with contacts in? I'd much rather not have to take them in and out each time I go for a swim. any helpful answers are appreciated!

Wearing contacts to the pool?

I've seen people swim with contacts underneath goggles but I've honestly never seen anyone swim with contacts without goggles. A girl who goes to the same USA Swimming club team as me said that her contacts rotated when water got in her goggles but as for swimming without goggles I'd say don't overdo it in the water, you might get really agitated and they might do funny things. It's just that I've never had to wear contacts or glasses in my life so I couldn't tell you from first-hand experience.

Is it okay to wear contact lenses when its raining?

Pretty sure it is.I’ve never heard ANYTHING about rain interfering with contact lenses.I’ve been wearing those for over 10 years and I walk in the rain, take showers, dive in the river/sea/pool and occasionaly even nap with them - never any trouble! Now, there’s ONE thing that could cause distress (though not actual damage) or discomfort…If you’re very sensitive to getting water in your eyes you’ll blink a lot more and perhaps even rub the lenses off when trying to wipe the water away. I often dislodge my lenses when wiping away tears caused by yawning, an action that may be repeated several times a day. Imagine how weird is was during extremely boring classes! But otherwise I’ll do everything under the sun wearing them and never noticed anything, and my optometrist never mentioned any particular care except not wearing them for more than 12 hours at a time and not sleeping with them through the night (happened once, it was horrible!).

Can I go swimming while wearing contact lenses?

As long as you keep your eyes closed, all will be OK. If you open your eyes, you risk the lens floating off your eye.
