What Are My Chances Of Getting Accepted Into Penn State University

Will I get accepted into Penn State University--University Park?

I just finished sophomore year and I have kind of been slacking off in my high school career so far. My schedule is the hardest possible one anyone can take which includes all AP and honors classes. I have just over a 3.3 GPA and a 30 on my ACT. I am involved in several groups in my school and also I am a three sport athlete. I have been recognized by my peers, school, and community on being a leader and I am part of several different leadership groups. I have been searching for colleges already and I am very interested in Penn State and was just wondering if I have a chance to get accepted.

Do I have a good chance to Penn State University?

Full tuition will be viewed favorably. The farther from Pennsylvania you live the more interest there will be in admitting you.Are you a minority student? A woman applying to engineering? Either might boost your chances. What have you learned from their website about the students admitted last year? What do you know about PSU, its engineering department, professors, research agendas? The more know about a college, the more able you will be to meet their expectations. The most important factor may be what you have already accomplished in the field of engineering you are considering. Being a good student might not be enough without some previous experience.Good luck!

What are my chances of enrolling at Penn State university with a GED and a SAT score of 1490?

Tough for Univ Park. 25th percentile SAT for accepted students is 1630.1490 at Abington is right about at the 50th percentile of accepted students.

Chances of getting into Penn State?

Hi there - sorry to say that I agree with the others - seems your grades might not be quite good enough. Penn State does look at other factors, particularly afterschool activities and test scores, so there is still a slight chance.

However, you may want to consider, if you are not accepted to main campus, going to a branch for 1 year, working really hard, and then trying to apply to transfer in to main. Actually, since your grades aren't outstanding, this might be a better path to take since Penn State main is difficult. For me, it was culture shock going from high school (where I did really well) to a state university - huge classes, little individualized attention - you have to work a million times harder than you do in high school. Why risk a poor freshman GPA when you mgiht be able to succeed at a branch, get some general education coursework out of the way, and then be more prepared for main campus.

If you do get a rejection letter, don't get too disappointed - consider these other options so you're prepared either way. Good luck!

Estimating your eligibility

Penn State bases admission decisions on a variety of factors. The high school grade-point average (GPA) accounts for approximately two-thirds of the decision. The remaining one-third is based on other factors, which may include standardized test scores (students taking the ACT are required to complete and submit the writing component), class rank, the personal statement, and activities list. Class rank is also considered for students with honors or Advanced Placement courses whose schools do not supply a weighted GPA. The optional personal statement and activity list are sometimes used to assist with the decisions for students whose applications require additional review.

The ranges in the chart below represent the middle 50 percent of students offered admission for fall 2008 they are not cutoffs or averages. Placing in the upper end of both ranges increases the likelihood of being offered your first choice of campus and/or major. Placing in the lower end of both ranges may require you to be more flexible in making your campus (and perhaps major) choices. This chart is intended to give you a general idea of your admissibility to Penn State. In no way does it represent a promise or guarantee of admission.

have a pretty decent shot!!! According to the stats... GOOD LUCK!!!

What are my chances of getting into Penn State Main?

Are you a Pennsylvania resident? That will matter a great deal.

Penn State will generally look at your unweighted GPA, along with your transcript, just like most anywhere else worth going to. I'm sure they have some place where they publish data with unweighted GPAs of applicants though, which you shouldn't bother looking at because every high school will generally weight somewhat differently. Some count honors and AP the same. Others count it differently. Some might weight certain courses 1.00 points higher per letter grade, others might do it only 0.50 points higher, and others might even go insane and do 1.50 points higher (not kidding). Weighted GPAs are so bad in some cases, that the same student could have a weighted GPA at one school over 6.0, and yet have a weighted GPA barely above 4.5 at another school, just because of differences in how they weight things.

As for your chances, it's impossible to say without knowing if you're a PA resident, and without knowing your SAT scores. I'd say you have a decent shot at main campus, but with virtually everyone and their mother wanting to get into main campus starting their freshman year, even people who have good enough qualifications often get denied entry to main and have to transfer there after attending a branch campus for awhile, which honestly isn't so bad.

Is there a shot i get into Penn State University Park?

My school has a very detailed database of college acceptance, and according to it, the average student who is accepted has a 93.06 GPA, with an average SAT score of 1216/1600, or 1818/2400. You're only a little bit below, which means you have a shot. Also, you have lots of great extracurriculars that PSU will love. Plus, if you're in any advances classes (Advanced, Honors, AP, etc.) that will only help. I would say you absolutely have a chance. Good luck!
