serious question 10 points rewarded

Am I too tall/ big for cheerleading?

Nope! Cheer is awesome because there's a place for every build.Typically, tiny girls are flyers, girls of average height are bases, and tall girls are backspots.Keep in mind though, all of this can be varied. Two of the best flyers on my college cheer team are pretty tall: around 5′4″ or 5′5″. Some of their bases are shorter than those flyers. I even was in a stunt group once with a 5′5″ flyer and 5′2″ backspot.Within a stunt group, two bases should be around the same height. It's easier to make average-sized girls bases because there are more options in terms of making pairs. Since each base holds one of the flyer’s feet, it makes more sense to use two girls who will be able to keep the flyer up at around the same distance in the air without one of the two bases having to correct a ridiculous amount. For that reason, given your height, I think you'd be a backspot. Many coaches gravitate towards making taller girls backspots. Since they're usually taller than the bases, it's easier for them to do their job (holding the ankle of the flyer). When I step in and frontspot for a group that's performing a stunt on one foot, I can reach all the way up to the flyer’s knee because I'm one of the taller girls. When I backspot a one-foot, I can reach up the flyer’s calf so I can help stabilize her leg. When I first tried out for my high school cheer team, I was a 15-year-old sophomore. I had zero cheerleading experience. When I walked into tryouts on the first day, one of the girls cheerfully said, “Oh good, we needed a backspot!”Same thing when I tried out for college cheer. I went to the initial interest meeting, and the coach asked how many girls were flyers. About half of the room raised their hands. The coach asked how many bases there were, and the rest of the room raised their hands. Finally, Coach asked how many backspots she had. I was the only one to raise my hand. My coach turned to me and said, “What's your name? How tall are you? Do you back one-foot stunts and tosses?” I answered her questions, knowing I was pretty much in at that point. At tryouts, she came around with a clipboard and wrote down the stunt positions of each prospective cheerleader. When she got to me, she remembered who I was: I’d stood out to her.Being a backspot totally has its perks. Yay for tall girls! Please feel free to message me with any questions about cheerleading.

How do you feel about cheerleading?

As a cheerleader I will say it straight forward that sideline is not a sport. On the other hand, competitive is very much a sport. As a cheerleader you bust your butt just as hard as any other athlete. Also, for the people who say it is sexist, depending on what league you cheer in you can have male cheerleaders. So saying cheerleading is sexist is hypocritical. I know in MHSAA(michigan high school athletics association) you can not have male cheerleaders for competitive, but for sideline it is aloud, although most choose not tryout. In allstar style leagues, and college level, males are also aloud to cheer.
Also, another point, the people who say that having cheerleaders is silly when the fans are there cheering, is also hypocritical. The cheerleaders are there to keep the crowd pumped up and get them even more pumped. Even when the team is down with no chance of winning the cheerleaders are still out there to keep spirits high when the fans are giving up and leaving early.
One more point, cheerleaders do not always wear sleazy uniforms. Even if they do, the coach picks them 90 percent of the time. Because you can have plus size cheerleaders not just anorexic tiny ones, coaches you taste when they pick out a uniform for the team because no one should have to be embarrassed about the way they look in the uniform.
Leading in to my last point, the whole stereotype is false! Blonde, tan, dumb, skanky, and skinny are false. cheer leading requires strength and comitment. Also, if you plan to cheer at a school level you have to maintain grades. I know many cheerleaders who are honors students. Also, I know many who aren't quote unquote 'hot.' Also, the I can honestly say that my senior year, our whole varsity team was 17 brunettes and one blonde. Also, many of us were pasty white.
All around, I guess what I'm trying to say is you can't ask other peoples opinion on a group of people, because everyone else is going to give you a biased opinion. If you want an unbiased opinion that you can believe you'll have to go out and see for yourself and make that decision on your own.
Hope this helps.

Cheerleading flyer problems.?

Okay. To stay in the air just pick a spot on the wall and keep your eyes locked on it. This helps with fear of heights issue. Squeeze everything you have, you might feel akward but it looks 100000X better. It helps your stunt group alot to because you're more easy to hold up and not so wobbly. As soon as your stunt group is about to pop you, take a deep breath in and breathe out as your coming down. Keep a smile too because it helps you not focus on fear but pleasing the crowd. As long as there are girls underneath you, you are in good hands. 99% of the time if you land on your stunt group they won't get mad, espically if your new. It sometimes hurts as a base or backspot, but they know it's worth it so you don't eat the floor. When you cradle just pull your legs up a little and catch their shoulders with your hands. That helps alot compared to not catching! When you tighten your abs and keep your legs tight,it makes it easier on the cradle and your stunt group will thank you. I've done every position in a stunt at an elite level and I'm very knowlagable about stunting. Just smiling and having fun is the best way to be confident and determined to stay in a stunt. If everybody has the same goal to move forward, you can achieve it. It's was a EXTREMELY daunting experience for my first time flying because I'm TERRIFIED of heights, but I have to be honest, I have never hit the floor without somebody underneath me in attempt to save me. You're new! You'll be fine. Just listen to my advice and you'll be set!(: GOODLUCK!

Am i to heavy to be a flyer in cheerleading?

i weigh about 150 lbs. and im 5'5 im all muscle. ive been cheering for 6 yrs. ive been a back spot & base but i want to try being a flyer. but im trying out for my high school varsity team next year... so am i to heavy to be a flyer???

Could I be a flyer in cheer?

Im sorry:( Probably not though. Im too tall to be a flyer on all 4 teams i cheer for/ have cheered for! And im a little less than 5 foot and weigh 105 pounds. Im sorry- i really wanted to be a flyer to though, but, now i do a little bit of everything- and i actually do enjoys basing and backing and fronting. I am flexible so i do occasionally get to fly, but not often as i am too tall. Sorry again- i was basically miserable when i found out i was too tall :(
Good luck tho! If ur lucky, you will be able to do a little bit of each! (Ps- i used to only fly for a few years, and honestly, it gets a bit annoying. You always have to stretch more than everyone else and its a ton of pressure when youre in front of people. I used to love it, but im still really happy with what i do now)

Muslim cheerleader wearing hijab what say you?

Idiotic, when one is apart of a team one should wear the proper uniform. It's quite dangerous, too.

It's not empowering whatsoever. islam oppresses women.

What is the average professional cheerleader's salary?

"How much do they get paid? How much, or rather how little, NFL Cheerleaders get paid is one of the league's better kept secrets. NFL teams bring in enormous profits – hundreds of millions of dollars every year – yet NFL Cheerleaders get paid nearly nothing. Truly, a waitress at Applebee's makes more per shift than an NFL Cheerleader makes per game. An experienced cheerleader can make about $1,000 to $1,500 per month. Most cheerleaders make far less than that. After two preseason games and eight regular season home games, most NFL cheerleaders make $500 to $750 per SEASON. If that's not embarrassing enough, keep in mind that NFL Mascots earn between $23,000 and $65,000 per year. Mascots also get benefits and bonuses and they don't have to prance about practically naked. To put it into even more perspective, let's take a look at a player on an NFL team's practice squad. These men never make a play during an actual game and they make about $100,000 per season. Over a season (16 games) that works out to $6,250 per game.Cheerleaders clearly cannot subsist on cheerleading alone, The average per game salary for a cheerleader is $70-$150. Many of the cheerleaders are required to purchase their own uniform, at a rough cost of $650. Like I said, they'd make more money at Applebee's. Cheerleaders also put in an enormous amount of time practicing – sometimes up to six hours per practice, several nights a week. Factor in full time jobs and you're looking at a very long day. Oh, and cheerleaders are not compensated for practice time, further driving their hourly rate down. And don't forget, game days can be 12-hours long as well, for a mere $70-150 paycheck."-Amy Lamare http://www.celebritynetworth.com...
