What Are Some Good Books That Include Death And/or Violence

What are some good books that contain a lot of violence?

Fiction, please. It should include murder, cannibalism, death, violence, stuff like that (doesn't have to be all of that though). A male protagonist would be preferred, but female is fine too. Something that could be found in a high school library would be great, but that's not really a big deal

What are some good books about Hypatia of Alexandria?

There are only two complete books that I know of that would not be classed as "historical fiction". The first is "Hypatia of Alexandria", by Maria Dzielska (Harvard University Press, 1995). The second is "Hypatia of Alexandria, Mathematician and Martyr", by Michael A. B. Deakin (Prometheus, 2007). Actually, for young readers, there are two further examples. Sandy Donovan's "Hypatia: Mathematician, Inventor and Philosopher" (Compass Point Books, 2008) is pretty good, as is "Of Numbers and Stars: The Story of Hypatia", by D. Anne Love. The latter is nice for very young readers in that it deals rather gently with Hypatia's death, as well as being at a somewhat lower reading level than the former.

What are some good novels with no violence, sex, death, etc.?

I do not want to read about anyone dying or being hurt (no murder mysteries, either).
I do not want to read about anything bad happening to children or animals.
I do not want to read about families on hard times.
I do not want to read about divorce.
I do not want to read about war.

I do not want to read sex scenes, although if a book isn't completely full of them I can probably skip over them if a book were to meet the rest of the qualifications.

I'm not a fan of foul language but I can overlook it if it's not saturating the entire novel.

I would like to read books written recently, hopefully within the last 10 years, the more recent the better. But I'll reach for anything anyone can confidently recommend at this point.

I like reading about relationships developing. I really do prefer if a novel has a romantic element to it. I just don't want to read what happens under the covers. And I would prefer if it were not genre romance. Think books you might find on the front table as you walk in the bookstore, or books you would read in a book club, not books segregated to the "romance" section.

I have read fantasy in the past.

I will read young adult if necessary, but I really prefer reading about adult relationships.

I don't need duckies and bunnies and fluff, but a book can be good without having terrible things happening to people (right?). I don't care how well-written it is, if it makes me cry I will absolutely stop reading. I am incredibly sensitive and will have trouble for a long time over a book pulling the rug out from under me with an unexpectedly sad or violent moment. I like to read but I'm having to read the same things over and over because I am so afraid of trying to read new books. It's very difficult to check a book over for subject matter without coming across spoilers. Please help me!

Is watchmen the graphic novel a good book?

While it is a good book in the sense that it is well written and drawn, it does have some very inappropriate scenes. There are scenes showing violence, death, rape, and sex. If any of these things bother you, I would advise against reading it.
