What Are Some Good Superman Comics

What are some good Batman AND Superman stories? (Comics, specific episodes and such)?

I'm a little tired of Batman vs Superman related arguments, posts and the like. With as much as people glorify the two of them fighting, people never bring up or even seems to remember that they're friends. I'll admit, I'm more into Marvel than DC but I love these characters and tired of seeing them have to be at odds. I'd like to be pointed to a specific story of them working together or even them just hanging out together in a more friendly tone.
I don't know how many answers I'll get so I'd like a little description of whatever is sent to me so I know which I'd like to read the most.

What are some good Superman comics/comic series?

There’s Superman: return to Glory. Its about a depowered Superman who finds an underground wrestling ring, full of ancient forgotten Gods. I won’t say much more, but despite being fairly new, it’s really good. Almost unanimously considered to be a pretty good comic run.I personally like Superman Unchained. Its about a Superman who is confronted with a more powerful alien, and details his struggles against and with this particular foe.The death of Superman comic line is also pretty good. It deals with a superman/doomsday battle, but also deals with what Superman is willing live and die for. It also illustrates just how important Superman is to the DC universe.Superman secret Identity is also pretty good. I like it for its metaphysics, and for the slightly relatable struggles of a boy, growing into not only a man, but superman.Superman All-star. Its a classic. It also has some metaphysical qualities that aren’t obvious to the end of the story, yet are built up through out it, accompanied by some awesome feats. So yea. Those are my top 5 superman stories. If i had to pick one, I think it would be The death of Superman. But each to his own.

What are some good Batman/Superman comics?

There are some pretty good stories featuring Superman and Batman, Heck, they even had a monthly ongoing series on the World’s Finest back then. The books featuring storylines from that same series are also pretty good. Especially, the first two arcs (Public Enemies and Supergirl from Krypton) were so good that they were even adapted to animated movies as part of DC Universe Animated Original Movies line.Superman/Batman Vol 01 – Public EnemiesSuperman/Batman Vol 02 – Supergirl from KryptonSuperman/Batman Vol 03 – Absolute PowerSuperman/Batman Vol 04 – With a VengeanceSuperman/Batman Vol 05 – Enemies Among UsSuperman/Batman Vol 06 – TormentRecently, DC Comics has compiled few of the greatest fights between the Man of Steel and The Dark Knight in a graphic novel titled “Batman Vs. Superman – The Greatest Battles”. That one does not only contain a lot of major battles but some most spectacular artworks from some industry legends as well. So, be sure to check it out. There was also a limited series titled “Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman: Trinity”, which was also quite good. Then there is The New 52 wave that came after the Flashpoint event and changed everything. The World’s Finest also returned with their own series in New 52. Their first encounter during the formation of the Justice League (Justice League - Origin) is one of the best of New 52.There are other storylines of the New 52 timeline as well and the Justice League stories and their own team-up adventures from Batman/Superman are also mention-worthy.

How do I start reading Superman comics?

Kingdom Come is a good graphic novel but it is more of an elseworld-storyline than actual Superman continuity. It's very good nontheless. Superman: Birthright has a good storyline where they updated the Superman character and explained why nobody recognizes Clark as Superman when he wears the glasses. I'm planning to buy Superman All-Star coz' I heard it has a great story. Another good Superman book is For Tomorrow with great artwrok by Jim Lee. The one with Supergirl is also good, where Superman, Batman, Wonder woman and the rest of the amazons fought a horde of Doomsday Clones. Amazing artwork by the late Michael Turner. If you want something with Flash in it then Crisis on infinte Earths is the right book for you and its sequel Infinite Crisis although you need to brush up with the whole DC universe characters coz' it might get confusing. Also try and read Justice it has some good parts with the Flash in it(the Flash version here is Barry Allen)Wherein Superman needed the help of Captain Marvel to stop Flash beause he can't stop running. Most of what I recommended were graphic novels, don't know much about the current Superman titles by DC. As long as you know the original Superman history I think you wouldn't be confused with any Superman title out now.

How many Superman comic books are there?

I took this to mean how many Superman titles are there. If that’s the case, then currently there are:SupermanAction ComicsRelatedSuper Sons (features Superman’s son Jon Kent, aka Superboy, with Damian Wayne, aka Robin)SupergirlNew Super-Man (the Superman of China)Superwoman (although this just recently was canceled)Justice LeagueTrinity“On Hiatus”Superman: Earth One (there are three volumes of this original graphic novel series, but I believe they are working on a fourth volume)Periodically through the year, DC will also publish one-off stories in graphic novel format, some of which feature Superman, and they also will republished older stories.

DC Comics: What are some of Superman's greatest feats/achievements?

If you’re asking of his most powerful, look no further.Superman is arguably the most powerful hero of DC. He is the epitome of power and being hero-like. He constantly holds back, never kills, and always finds a way to succeed.I’ll provide incredibly powerful feats for Silver Age Superman and Bronze Age Superman. Let’s begin.-Silver-Age/Pre-CrisisNow this is an obvious one. Superman flew to a “long dead universe” within seconds, to sneeze away a Solar System. That is both speed and power in one feat.As a teen, holds a Neutron Star weighing trillions of tons, and having a magnetic pull greater than 12 Supernovas, then, tosses the star a billion light years away with a single throw. Shows great strength, and durability.Superboy also was towing a Galaxy’s worth of Planets into the “other side of the universe”. Showing great strength, and speed.Tanks the blast of a 100 Galaxies with only slight damage. Can fly trillions of miles in seconds.Tanks the energies of the Big Bang and destroys a machine that was also tanking the Big Bang. Showing Universal durability, and universal strength.Breaks the bonds of infinity looking for his cousin, Kara or Supergirl-Bronze Age/Post-CrisisSuperman completely blitz and destroys Imperiex probes with heatvision and ice breath. These probes contain a portion of the power to destroy the universe. Superman also survives their explosion.Superman manages to pierce and hurt Soulfire Darkseid. The same Darkseid who was shrugging off the Source’s attack.Superman managed to survive a Blackhole that was sucking up the universeBreaks through time, space, and reality to punch death in the face. This feat is ridiculous.Superman managed to hurt/tank Mordru. A 30th century wizard who is universalSurvives the source wall’s explosionSuperman frees Darkseid from the source with just pure strength. The same source that trapped the promethian giants for being in the vicinity.-ConclusionWhile Superman is incredibly powerful, we should not overlook the greatest feats he does everyday. That is, protecting those who cannot protect themselves. Whether you like him or you hate him, you cannot deny that he is a hero.

What are some good Xmen comics?

The best way to get into the X-men is to start at the beginning of Chris Claremont's run.  The X-men have a reputation for being intimidatingly inaccessible for new readers because of how many members have been a part of the team and how many stories over the years are still relevant to the books being written today.  So rather than picking up a current story and needing to reference the internet twice a page, go back to those early books when Claremont first introduced icons like Storm, Wolverine, and Colossus.  Some of his early stories, notably "Proteus", "The Dark Phoenix Saga" and "Days of Future Past" are still considered among the best in the history of the X-men.These stories have been reprinted in a ton of trade paperbacks, including giant volumes of "Essential X-Men" that are printed in black and white on pretty cheap paper, which are real inexpensive.Have fun!

What are some good superhero comics for beginners?

There are a lot of great titles recommended by others but I personally feel that legends like Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, Kingdom Come and All-Star Superman are enjoyed much more if you are already comfortable with comics and know some stuff. If you're just starting, I would recommend some great origins. These will let you know if you are actually interested in a character and want to read more stories about him.Superman: Birthright or Superman: Secret Origin - Both of these are solid origins for Superman. I personally prefer Birthright but some people are put of by the fact that it is 12 issues long. Also, Secret Origin gives you a lot about  Superman mythos while Birthright concentrates on Superman, Lex Luthor and the people close to Superman.Batman: Year One - This is the place to start for Batman. I would definitely NOT recommend Dark Knight Returns or Killing Joke for your first Batman book even though these books along with Year One are the Holy Trinity for Batman graphic novels. You'll probably understand my reasons once you've read some Batman and then read these two books.Green Lantern: Secret Origin - Though not the place I started reading Green Lantern, it is a fantastic story that gives you details on how Hal Jordan became a Green Lantern.Justice League: Origin - This is the current origin for the Justice League and tells you how these superheroes got together. It's really awesome but you might feel a bit of basic info on each character except Cyborg might improve your experience. This is just a tiny thing and you can enjoy it even if you don't know about all he characters.Wolverine - Though not technically an origin, this is the story that defined Wolverine, definitely worth a read if you don't mind a violent superhero. If you know a bit about the X-Men, say from the movies, you should read X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills also. There you go. Remember that I've tried to give you only starting points. Where you go after this is up to you.The following link will send you to an answer written by me which will help you discover more stories about a particular character you like.Farzan Byramji's answer to How can I get started on reading Marvel or DC comics?
