What Are Some Non-clinical Psychology Jobs

What careers can you have with a non clinical psychology MA?

Hi Amy. You have a good degree if it is a Masters in some aspect of Psychology or a general study. Part of the career search needs to look critically at your skills and activities you did well in school. For example, if you were good in stats there are careers as a research assistant and data analysis for a range of social science areas. Some of the big data companies like MA’s in social statistics experience applying SPSS or other statistical programs to their data collection. If you are more interested in corporate or larger non-profit companies, you can look at applying for career entry work in Human Resources along with working towards an upgrade in Human Resource credentialing. This is a very large field and may psych majors really like working with Human Capital, hiring and training staff. There are also many other training opportunities.A third area is teaching social studies or simple psychology classes to private school clients as they don’t often require school credentialing to teach High School. Some community colleges also hire MA level psychology grads to do curriculum guidance and admission administration. The whole area of working in a Dean of Students office has possibilities also on university campuses.A fourth area is working with children in research programs or with teens in more recreational situations or in camp counselling roles. It is helpful to know what you are good at and find satisfying in the field to help focus your search.Good luck,

What is the difference between the B.A. psychology & the B.S. psychology?

The B.A. in Psychology focuses more on the social aspects of the study of human behavior and psychological function, and the B.S. degree focuses mostly on the biological and biochemical basis of behavior and mental function. Although these focus areas overlap, the background and experiences necessary to pursue one focus area or the other are quite different. The B.S. degree has a heavy biological and physical sciences emphasis.

So if your interests are in areas such as: Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Social Psychology, and Developmental Psychology, then you would benefit more from taking the B.A. in Psychology.

If your interests are in areas such as: Biopsychology, Psychopharmacology, Neuroscience, Psychiatry, Neuropsychology, Sports Psychology, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, Genetic Counseling, Public Health, Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine, then consider opting for the B.S. program.
