Technological advancement in the Philippines does not necessarily threaten people's jobs, as technology creates many jobs, but in other sectors. The main threat of technological advancement is to the employment of those people who are not educated enough to catch up with the advancement as technology requires some form of specialization. Here are some advances that I have observed. 1. Automation/computerization of government processes (ie. fingerprint scanning for elections, applications for NSO certificates (online na!), applications for passports and visas) have made them faster and much more efficient and convenient. 2. Advances in telecommunications have allowed foreign companies to outsource transcriptionist jobs, call centers, etc These also allow electronic money transfer. 3. Advances in computers and telecom are also allowing scientific researches in the Philippines access to their colleagues from other countries, while at the same time makes up-to-date information available to the general public. Here are some places where technology has not yet helped. 1. Agriculture. Filipino farmers are not competitive because of lack of technology. 2. Certain government bureaucracies. There are still a large number of procedures in the government that are not automated. Records are also not encoded/digitized making records keeping and retrieval difficult. 3. Infrastructure.

Since we cannot see at night, I guess the electric light bulb is a pretty good technological advance. Same with a car. Since we can only walk at 3 mph, with a car we can overcome this defect and travel a mile a minute with a car. That is a pretty good technological advance. And a telephone. now we can talk to people thousands of miles away, whereas before we could only talk with in a hundred feet or less.
