What Are Some Ways To Avoid Dehydration Or Any Other Bad Things During Marching Band Season

Marching Band Parade tips?

So I play bass clarinet for a marching band and in two weeks we have a huge parade coming up. The parade will be over 7 miles long and I need some tips on how to "survive". Some things I need tips on controlling is how hot it gets in the uniforms, hydration (the only water We get during the parade are squirts from the bottles on occasion), and how to keep my instrument up (my left arm has to stay straight out at a 90° angle) which is rather heavy. Any tips help! Thank you! :D

Passed out during marching band?

First of all, it's okay, there's always a few people that pass out each year, it's not your fault and everyone will forget it sooner or later. No one should laugh at you or tease you because of this, because it's freaking hot out! Blacktops can heat up to above 100 degrees during the summer....Anyways, the reason you passed out was probably from dehydration, make sure to get a half gallon reusable water bottle and fill it with water each day. The second reason could be because you have low blood sugar, which often causes people to faint. Try eating plenty of fruit like apples, bananas, anything you can keep in a small insulated lunchbox so it won't heat up in the sun. Trust me, the first several days are always rough, I know the feeling. It WILL get slightly better once you're used to it. I'm guessing marching band camp has recently started...I think that you'll be fine, but if it happens again, get it checked out! If it happens more than once, it could be serious, but the first few days, just push through it. You have to know your body's limits though. If you feel very dizzy again, during the next water break, just tell the band director... They will definitely understand, no person would be that cruel as to not let you take a break if you're about to faint. For your chin, try using some aloe vera or honey (honey works really well to prevent scarring), first wash the area before applying anything, then rub the aloe or honey on your chin and use a bandaid to finish it up. Again, there's nothing to be embarrassed about, trust me, this happens all the time during marching band! If anything, people will think you're really brave to continue through it. Show that you have guts and prove any people that tease you wrong! :) You can do it, good luck band buddy!! lol...

What to eat before marching band?

When I was doing 2 a days for football practice, besides eating a high protein breakfast (eggs, bacon, oatmeal, ect.) I always had banana's. These are great for a few reasons, but the primary benefit for you would be 1. It's convenient, and something you can actually take with you (you want to eat one every hour while your out there), 2. the potasium will help stave off your dehydration. 3. They make you feel full quickly, and helps with digestion. It's quick, convenient, and the perfect food. Peel one today:) Good Luck...

Healthy breakfast to eat before marching band practice?

I'm going to be a freshman next year, and summer marching band practice started today. I don't know what to eat for breakfast other than fruit. This morning I had a bowl of Lucky Charms for breakfast. During practice, I threw up twice and nearly passed out. I know that I have to drink a ton of water and eat fruit, but I don't know what to have for breakfast that will last me throughout four hours of being outside in 90+ degree weather.

Ways to not pass out during band camp?

Drink a lot of water. A good way to know you're drinking enough (even though it's kind of gross) is to check and see if your urine is clear. If it is, you're hydrated. Drink twice as much as you think you need to.
Eat before band. Even if it seems like it's going to just sit on your stomach, it won't and you'll need the energy. But DON'T DRINK MILK. It will make you nauseous. Try eggs or fruit before band, with plenty of water.
Another good thing to do is wear plenty of sunscreen, as sunburn can dehydrate you. Wear a hat and sunglasses, too.
Also remember not to lock your knees, because that cuts off the blood flow and will make you pass out. If you're still having difficulties with passing out after this, talk to your band director or section leader for more tips.
