What Are The Compare/contrast And The Cause/effects Of This Reading The Fall Of The House Of User

What are the compare/contrast and the cause/effects of this reading? The Fall of the House of User," by Edgar Allan Poe?

Beyond this indication of extensive decay, however, the fabric gave little token of instability. Perhaps the eye of a scrutinizing observer might have discovered a barely perceptible fissure which, extending from the roof of the building in front, made its way down the wall in a zigzag direction, until it became lost in the sullen waters of the tarn.Noticing these things, I rode over a short causeway to the house. A servant in waiting took my horse, and I entered the Gothic archway of the hall. A valet, of stealthy step, thence conducted me, in silence, through many dark and intricate passages in my progress to the studio of his master. Much that I encountered on the way contributed, I know not how, to heighten the vague sentiments of which I have already spoken. While the objects around me—while the carvings of the ceilings, the sombre tapestries of the walls, the ebon blackness of the floors, and the phantas magoric armorial trophies which rattled as I strode, were but matters to which, or to such as which, I had been accustomed from my infancy—while I hesitated not to acknowledge how familiar was all this—I still wondered to find how unfamiliar were the fancies which ordinary images were stirring up. On one of the staircases, I met the physician of the family. His countenance, I thought, wore a mingled expression of low cunning and perplexity. He accosted me with trepidation and passed on. The valet now threw open a door and ushered me into the presence of his master.

Compare/contrast essay Things Fall Apart and Oedipus?

Beowulf, Oedipus, or both? Oedipus and Okonkwo are both tragic heroes, in most ways outstanding men, but with tragic flaws that bring about their downfalls. Beowulf, however, is an epic hero, not really tragic. Although he dies at the end of his epic, he dies fighting to protect his people, and there are hints that he knows this will be his last fight. The monsters he fights symbolize the evil in human nature, let loose by unthinking human acts. So in a sense it's the tragic flaws of other people that bring about Beowulf's fall. But consider this: When Beowulf dies, he has been King of the Geats for fifty years. Several years have passed between his fight with Grendel and his becoming King, so he must be about eighty when he dies. Few warriors get to live to that age and then go out in such a blaze of glory, and noble, unselfish glory at that. You might get a good thesis out of the idea that Okonkwo is a warrior like Beowulf but has a tragic flaw like Oedipus.

Help me find a cause and effect for this passage from "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edger Allen Poe?

CAUSE: Ushers married only other Ushers
Effect: Strongly suggests "over-breeding." This male heir seemed peculiar.
And, of course, there is truth in this: too much intermarriage, and some defect
(mental or physical) will eventually appear.

In this case, it is identified by the narrator as a rather terrifying "sensibility of temperament"--for although the narrator perceives his friend as possessing the familial habit of generosity, the narrator really does not know this friend, who has a "reserve" that seems to conceal some horrible character trait.

The second paragraph deals more specifically with the apparently disproportionate sense of terror (effect) the narrator feels--in part, because of his own overblown imagination (cause).

What are the differences between Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson's views?

They disagreed about almost everything. Two of their disagreements that are still pretty relevant:1. Hamilton believed that there should be a strong federal government, Jefferson believed that the states should be stronger.2. Hamilton believed that Blacks and Whites were equal in ability and that the apparent differences were due to different circumstances (like the Blacks being slaves, being forbidden to read, being ill fed, etc). Jefferson believed Blacks were "inferior in both mind and body".Some other disagreements:Hamilton thought senators and presidents should be elected for life. Jefferson did not.Jefferson thought there should be periodic revolutions. Hamilton did not.Hamilton was a strong supporter of a national bank (and helped found it). Jefferson thought this was unconstitutional.Hamilton proposed freeing slaves and arming them to fight the British. Jefferson owned slaves and thought the institution would die out on its own.

Liberalism? Conservative? What do these really mean?

Wow...good job! Pretty much sums it up and yeah...prepare to be attacked with namecalling. I'm sure they are on their way!
