Is Renault's 1.5dCi engine reliable on the long term? Are there any known major issues?
The K-Type engine is reliable, however early dCi ones 2001–2003 did have issues, but post that they got better. The engine is used by Nissan, Dacia and Renault, and I know a number of Taxi Drivers (Cab Drivers) who have them in Dacia Logn’s from 2010, that have covered many thousand of miles without issue, just with regular maintenance, however, being Taxi, and doing short around town journeys, there do have to go out on the Motorway about once a fortnight and give them a run, to clear the DPF’s to prevent issuesAlso, they seem to drink more oil than other similar engines, it is just something to keep an eye on.
