What Choice Do I Pick For The Army If I Want To Go Into Combat

If I want to be in combat in the US Army, what job should I choose?

Aside from what Jon and Dave have already mentioned (11B - Infantry), there is another ‘job’ you could sign-up for that could possibly get you a higher chance of getting into combat… ready?Enlist in a combat support role that is out in the field (think Combat Engineer, Mortarman, etc.), excel in your role and THEN go through Ranger and/or Special Forces school. Why? If you want to experience combat, you will have a 100% chance of combat as an SF operator (Comms Sergeant, Weapons Sergeant, etc. - they’re all focused on ‘one team’ mentality), and a near hundred percent chance as a Ranger.I’d advocate more for an SF operator role, since the majority of our war is focused on ‘precision’ strikes against Daesh (aka ISIS), and not so much conventional warfare. Hope this helps!

I want to see combat will the National Guard be the right choice?

Yes the national guard sees combat. My unit is heading back to the sandbox soon. It all depends on the units rotations however. You never know how much you will see when you deploy because every mission could be met with resistance.

If you want to go outside the wire then I suggest Infantry, cavalry, or Medic attached to an Infantry unit. Be warned though. You still might never see combat though.

Best of luck though!

Oh yeah. Your job is guaranteed safe under USERRA. The can not legally refuse you your job or any bonuses you would have made while on Military Orders.

Which branch should I join to see combat? Army or USMC? *Infantry*?

Well you make life so simple dude..If you dont want to have a chance at getting the LAV MOS then you choose Army and enjoy your time there..

Real simple...If you choose USMC infantry you have a one in five chance of getitng LAV and you say you dont want that, so what is there to debate?

And the 0300 MOS has LAV and not the 0311, that is a basic rifleman.

And where exactly is all this combat you wish to see?

Do officers go into combat?

As a Lt in a combat arms field you will most likely have a plt for a short while. You will not be as close to your men as the plt sgt or the other nco's. That just isn't your job. By the time you pick up 1st Lt you might become company XO or move on. From there on you will have commands, but you will not be close to your Marines.

Which combat arms branch of the Army should I choose?

I will be going through OCS next year and am debating which combat arms branch I should pick in my top three. My problem is that all the combat arms branches look interesting to me and none of them I would be disappointed in receiving. So I figured I would ask people out there with experience to which of the possible branches to go to.
-I receieved an 84 on my AFQT and qualified for all branches.
-I earned a 300 on my PFT
-I used to play football in highschool and a little in college til a knee injury. (dont worry its fine now)
-I will graduate with two degrees (Philosophy and Sports Studies) from a Big Ten school.
-I have already gone through JROTC.
-I am not much of a gear-head so that might hurt me in armor or aviation.
-I also understand that the needs of the army come first, so PLEASE dont answer with anything about their needs. I merely want to make the list in descending order of preference with the help of those who have been in the combat arms branches.
Thank You!

Should I go combat medic or military police?

Medic's typically work at what's called a "TMC" or "Troop Medical Clinic". They are in the "medic" units and no, they're not just another infantryman. It doesn't matter what you do in the military if you're going into sports medicine. I mean, there will be *some* similarities between the 68W and medicine... but not enough that you should make your decision based on it.

Military Police are douches and no one likes them for the most part. If you go MP, you'll only hang out with MP's... And if you're MP and you deploy, chances are you'll just guard checkpoints and do patrols... if you're looking for a *career* move that will get you a chance to do anything besides becoming a "cop"... then go 68W.

And airbourne isn't really what you're going to need and it's going to give you a skill identifier that will most likely put you in a shitty assignment... just a thought.

Good luck.

(Note: I don't know a lot about the reserves, I was active...)

Can you choose to go infantry in the Marines?

Can you choose to go infantry in the Marines? As an enlisted Marine if you want to join the infantry, you can. However, it is quite competitive at the officer level. As a Marine officer it depends where you fall out in the competitive rankings while attending the USMC’s six month long officer basic course known as The Basic School (TBS). (They can’t just call it BS).
