I recommend just highlights first like your dad said, and do NOT put red in your hair unless you are 110% sure you want it and will keep it in there, the first colour I ever dyed my hair was red and a year and a bleaching later, I still can't get it out :(

I went to a salon to get my hair professionally dyed for the first time. I had a few light pink highlights put in my hair. Hi! I know this is super late, but I just got my hair partially pinked yesterday. The original plan was to get one streak of blonde, but this was the end result:(Shout out to my man Zaza Pachulia in the background!)Some parts are kinda orangey, while some parts have hints of purple :^) It kinda reminds me of a sunset!As for the actual dying process: it was fun! I couldn’t wait to see the final product. Lots of suspense was involved. And do I wish that I had just stuck to the original plan and gotten a streak of blonde instead? No way, José! What color should I dye my Asian Hair?
I think you should go brown. It's a very light change and very neutral. Which is what most of us go for the first time we dye our hair! I highly recommend doing it. It's a nice change. Especially when it compliments your skin tone. Me, I've got sun-bronzed brown before. It was not cool. It was a disaster color. Luckily, I know more now than I did before. I recently had dark brown and it was awesome. It matched my skin tone and everything. Very nice. The next thing I'm dyeing it is midnight blue just like you were planning to. I thought it would be pretty nice.
Dyed hair yesterday... color coming out in shower?
Hi all, I colored my hair yesterday with permanent hair color. The instructions said to not wash your hair for at least 24 hours, so I didn't. I washed my hair today and I have hair color coming out in the water! Is this normal and will it go away?? Thank you!
Dying hair for the first time? A few questions?
In about a month(after the dance season is over), I'll be dying my hair for the first time. I've never been able to do it because I was worried about any colors I got clashing or looking weird with my dance costumes. At first I thought about just doing a ginger/light brown ombre, but now I really don't care and I want to do something fun with it. The color I really want to get is a dark blue with a teal to mint ombre. I'll be getting it done properly in a salon by one of friends. She's dyed her hair a ton and is quite experienced. I have a few questions first though: My hair is naturally a very dark brown, wouldn't I have to continuously bleach and dye my roots? If my hair was bleached/dyed is there any chance it would hold curls and such better? My hair is naturally very soft and won't hold a curl from a curling iron for more than 10 minutes. But I'm aware bleach would damage it and it would probably feel more straw like. Seeing as colors fade over time, could I let it do that then dye it another color without bleaching it again?

I suggest as it is the first time for you is to start small. Which means that if you have darkest brown hair then lighten it to medium brown first. Then after several times lighten it again to light brown. And so on. This is better since it is your first time EVER and it is also better than going too light, regret it then dye it again to a darker shade. That would ruin your hair as well.Good luck!
Can I dye my hair twice in a week with the same color?
Consider your hair type when choosing a dye.It really depends on the type of dye you are using and the current condition of your hair. Semi permanent dye is my personal favorite because it is non damaging, and in addition to coming in natural colors such as black, auburn, and honey blonde, the shade ranges will more often than not include fun colors such as green, purple, and blue. Semi permanent isn't right for everyone, though. The upkeep of a semi permanent color can be much harder than a permanent dye. You'll usually have to redye your hair every six to eight weeks. This also means you could dye your hair every day, if you wanted to.Really, its just important to consider the integrity of you hair before you put it through any kind of chemical process.

For summer i wanted to dye my hair something like purple,pink or blue...I would also have it during high school (first year) im a bit shy so im nervous to do something so drastic. My hair is dark brown, most people think its black and i have brown eyes which aren't that dark, I'm also part Hispanic but it doesnt really show until i tan which i may do right now my skin is pale to super light tan(fair).
