Is it normal to not have a middle name?

It's not abnormal, by any stretch of the imagination. In the US, I'd say it's certainly less common than having one (or two), though. The only person I can think of who I know personally who doesn't have one is my best friend from high school. Her parents were Indian, and apparently Indians don't do middle names (or at least not where her family was from). Literally everyone else I know has one. But if I found out someone didn't have one, it wouldn't be weird. I might go, "Hmm." But that'd be about the extent of my reaction. For what it's worth, my mom put zero thought into my and my sister's middle names. She just kind of picked common names that sounded good with our first names and was like, "Meh. Okay." So even when people have middle names, it doesn't mean they're chosen for any specific reason. I remember when my other sister was in labor, we were just spitballing names in the hospital room. She chose Michael as a middle name for my nephew because it sounded good with his (already chosen) first name when shouted.

What do you think about the girl names Hortense and Ambrosia?

I'm not sure how to pronounce Hortense but it kind of reminds me of "Horton Hears a Who" and it's an androgynous name that she would constantly have to spell for people.

Ambrosia is better, but it pretty much just makes me think of fruit salad.

Sorry if my answer seems harsh, but I'm just being honest :)

Middle names for Zaria and Emmalise?

I'm having my 2nd set of twins! Samoan, black, white, german mix :) And they're girls and My husband and I are stuck on middle names ! I was thinking of something french? Or french sounding? German? Our last name is Horton. Any suggestions? :)

What do you think of the name "Haisley"?

Huh? I think I like that. It's different but not too out there. There are a few "H" names I really dislike, such as Hazel, Hortense and Henrietta. I won't even touch on the subject of the boys' names Harry and Henry, not to mention Haiden (just b/c of the meaning on that one though. I do like the sound of it).
But as for "H" names I also like: Haven, Harper, Holly, Hillary, Harmony, Hans and Harrison.

Why do people have middle names?

It can be for a number of reasons. Honoring a relative (my son’s middle name is a family name, although his first name had to have the same first letter as my wife’s late dad to honor him, which was why his middle name is from my side of the family), distinguishing one person from others (I go by my middle name since my dad and I both have the same first name). I had a sergeant who was named something like James A. A. Smith…middle initials, not names…because his dad said there’d be a lot of James A. Smith’s, but he’d be pretty unique with the second A. Spanish naming customs can include paternal and maternal names, such that General Santa Anna of Texas Independence infamy has the full name of Antonio de Padua María Severino López de Santa Anna y Pérez de Lebrón. Prince Harry of England has a full name of Henry Charles Albert David according to Wikipedia, and his dad Charles Philip Arthur George. It seems they don’t have last names…a perk of nobility??? Middle names aren’t universal. Many people in the US have only first and last names. Not necessary by any means, but pretty common. And then there is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore :-)

What middle names sound good with the name Kalyn?

One of my friends is having a baby, and I'm the Godmother. She asked me to pick a middle name, and I've been brainstorming but cant seem to think of the right name.
