What Do You Think Of My Comic So Far

Good idea for a manga comic?

So I have an idea for a graphic novel, and so far everyone I've talked to has approved. I won't divulge the entire plot, but I will set it all up for you. The genre is psychological/drama/mecha/action-fantasy... There'll be some comedy here and there to lighten it up a bit. The whole thing has a sort of steampunk vibe to it, and is anachronistic.

So in this world (yet to be named), the fusion of human and machine is a commonplace occurrance. There are people who volunteer for the government to undergo physical transformations in order to benefit the community, and society of humankind in general. Their abilities are enhanced beyond those of a normal person, and they exist to push civilization forward. These people are called Demimechians. People are content and don't give a second thought to it.

Except for Zakkurai. He is a madman; once a scientist of great ability, but now has descended into insanity- dangerously unstable. He hates and fears the demimecha people with a passion. He believes that they will try to rise up and enslave all of organic humankind, because of their mechanically enhanced strength and abilities. His warped view of reality leads him to carry out a personal mission to "be the savior of all people". He does this by going from place to place "purifying" the towns of any abominations; namely exterminating anyone associated with the Demimecha community.

Now in one of the towns, there is an underground organization working to stop Zakkurai's mad raids. The DMAP: Demimecha Association of Peace.
The story follows four main characters. Chichi, Boon, Baron, and Lara. Chichi, Boon, and Baron are all demimechians who are a part of the DMAP. Lara is a very young girl who lost her family in one of Zakkurai's raids on another town. Boon and Baron find her near dead on her feet while they do a routine scout of the city outskirts, and bring her back to DMAP headquarters. Lara becomes a very important character, and is a central bonding point for the members of the DMAP. Note: Lara is not demimechian.

So that's the basic setup for the story. Crazy evil guy comes to annihilate a certain group of people, and the DMAP works to bring him down. Bam- major psychological issues for each character arc. And (spoiler alert!) I've already decided to kill off Baron. Sorry, but someone big has to go.

So what do you think?

Good marvel and dc comics to start with?

I'm sure some will disagree with me, but Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern is the best comic DC has out now. I would highly suggest it. A good starting point for it would be the trade "Green Lantern: Rebirth". Here is a list of GL Trades in chronological order:

"Green Lantern: Rebirth"
"Green Lantern: No Fear"
"Green Lantern: Revenge of the Green Lanterns"
"Green Lantern: Wanted"
"Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War Vol. 1"
"Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War Vol. 2"
"Green Lantern: Secret Origin"
"Green Lantern: Rage of the Red Lanterns"
"Green Lantern: Agent Orange"

Those are all of the trades released to now. Green Lantern ties heavily into DC's latest Major-Event "Blackest Night", which I would highly suggest. The trade for "Blackest Night" comes out in July, along with a trade of the Green Lantern issues that tie into the story, "Green Lantern: Blackest Night".
The Green Lantern issues out, that have not been made into a trade yet are; Green Lantern #53, 54, and 55 (#55 releases soon).

"Kingdom Come" Alex Ross is a superb read.

Batman trades "Batman: Hush", and "Batman: The Long Halloween", are also excellent choices.

I'm not sure if your a fan of western comics, but any "Jonah Hex" issues written by Justin Grey & Jimmy Palmiotti are great.

If you like the Flash, Geoff Johns work on "Flash: Rebirth", and the current Flash on-going like the answerer above me mentioned, are also good reads.

As you can see, I'm a bigger DC fan than marvel, but Marvel trades of "Old Man Logan" are good reads as well, along with most Deadpool comics.

What do you think of Red Hood’s new design?

We really need to see the outfit in the comics proper, but my first impression of the new design is that it’s disappointing.I’ll admit, the new design on the right does have a red hood - fitting the name, and I really don’t have a problem with most of the costume. My disappointment stems from the missing face-plate, which just fit perfectly.Look at the head without the hood - it just feels wrong, with the face mask, the domino mask, and then the hood on top.The whole thing feels like something out of the Amalgam Universe - as if the MCU Winter Soldier joined the Sacred Order of St. Dumas. And you know what, let’s throw in a bit of Casey Jones in there as well. The crowbar, being a callback to the Joker thing, is a little too on the nose. I think the other weapon is a sword of some kind (at least they didn’t settle on the tire iron) which I guess is a reference to the League of Assassins, perhaps? With the Lazarus pit resurrection and everything. And the emblem on the chest - I see that they wanted to incorporate the Bat but keep it different, but to me it looks like something that would work for an Earth-3 Robin, you know, under Owlman.Let’s not forget, there were a lot of variants that were sketched before settling on the final design, with similarities ranging from the Punisher to Azrael to Deathstroke, so clearly a lot of thought has gone into finalizing the costume. It’s really the double mask under the hood that bothers me the most, followed by the “eyes” in the emblem. Though I suspect I’d get used to this after a few issues. But my biggest concern at the moment is what will happen to the Dark Trinity. All images of the new design from DC Nation #3 from earlier this week.

I want to write a comic book but im stuck on how to start?

Becoming a professional comic-book writer is an incredibly challenging goal. Artists have far more ways of getting recognized and can have very long careers, but writers tend to be phased out after a few years, and generally get paid far less than artists, which contributes to the difficulty of making a career out of their work. There are exceptions to the rule, such as Mark Millar and Grant Morrison, but many of the great comic writers are also artists, like Frank Miller and Todd McFarlane. Because the industry is very difficult to break into if you cannot draw, you'll need all the help you can to get your foot in the door. creators get a flat fee, and *some* of them (the 'star' creators) get a percentage on top of that. That percentage barely ever actually cuts in . Neil Gaiman in Writers On Comics Scriptwriting said he made $1500 - $2000 per script when he was writing Sandman, and that still seems to be the average. A John Byrne or someone else with a huge reputation like that might make say $500 per page for writing, pencilling and inking. Normally a penciller would make about $200 per page. The royalties made from individual issues are generally zero now,a s sales never reach the point where they would kick in. If a trade becomes a steady seller long-term though, it can be a good earner for a creator. That's obviously all work-for-hire - obviously a self-publisher makes much more per unit sold (though in general will make less overall). So if you're John Byrne, and you can write, pencil and ink three comics a month, or whatever he does, then you could pull in a couple of million a year. If you're just doing one of those jobs, you'll make a few grand per comic. So say we have hypothetical Star Creator A, who writes three books a month, and gets 10% more than a normal writer because s/he's signed an exclusivity contract, that works out at about $80,000 per year ($2200 per comic, times 36, rounded a bit for convenience).

Do you think unbelievers are antichrists that have come into the world?

er, maybe

ܐܠܗܝ ܐܠܗܝ ܠܡܢܐ ܫܒܩܬܢܝ
“Elahi, Elahi lamana shabaqthani?”

or

אלוהי אלוהי למה עזבתני
"Eloi, Eloi lama azab’tani?”

was shouted. er maybe it was Aramaic, er maybe it was Hebrew.

What do you think is the most overrated film(s) of the MCU?

In my opinion, there is no question:Now before you get ready to tar and feather me, why don’t you set the SJW hat down for a few minutes and listen.I am not saying Black Panther was a bad movie. It was still one of the best MCU movies, easily in the top 5. But just look at how it has been reviewed. On Rotten Tomatoes it holds a 97% rating, higher than the Dark Knight (a far superior film by any measure honestly). When you look at newspaper reviews, you’ll probably find something like this:‘Black Panther’ Review: Marvel’s History-Making Superhero Movie’s a Masterpiece. . . an exhilarating triumph on every level from writing, directing, acting, production design, costumes, music, special effects to you name it.That was a review by Rolling Stone. Let’s just look at some of the claims there. For one thing, the effects were decidedly below average for a Marvel movie. Especially in the train fight scene and with the rhinos, the CGI can be pretty sloppy, especially compared to the amazing CGI in movies like Ant-Man and Infinity War.And yes, there were some great characters too. Killmonger was a fantastic villain. But how about we talk about Shuri? The princess who has no problem with using racist stereotypes and being an obnoxious brat.Or of course Everett K. Ross who’s basically only there to make white people look dumb and useless. For that matter, Black Panther introduced us to a whole new level of plot armor with Vibranium, the magic metal that can do literally everything, including somehow make Shuri the smartest person in the MCU. Need a medical procedure? Use Vibranium. Need invincible armor or weapons? Use Vibranium.Other than those complaints, the movie was still pretty good. But a cultural milestone? Really? All because of an all-black cast? I get it, it’s impossible to criticize a SJW movie without being labeled racist or sexist or whatever.Because that is really what makes this movie so overrated. It was a movie that had an all-black cast with a bumbling white person and an extremely powerful black nation. If you took away those things, it’s not that much different than your other great MCU movies. But please don’t misunderstand my answer. I have nothing against movies with an all-black cast. I happily welcome movies like that. But to compare this movie with all-time greats like The Dark Knight is absolutely ridiculous.I mean, are you really trying to say that these two are even in the same league?I only hope Captain Marvel isn’t the same way next year.

Why don't I understand most of xkcd's comics?

A lot of them have roots in American pop culture, American nerd culture, American academic culture, breaking news, current Internet events, or engineering and science principles. It's kind of like trying to understand Astérix if you don't speak French or understand European history.Fortunately, there is explain xkcd, a crowdsourced site which breaks down why each xkcd comic is supposed to be funny.

Why is Comic Sans not a font option for me?

My question to you would be, Who told you that Comic Sans is not a font option? Clearly, if you own a Windows OS or Mac OS, Comic Sans is an option. Look, I don’t use Comic Sans because it sets the wrong mood for most of my projects, but I don’t mindlessly dog pile on it because the ‘High Priests’ of the graphic design kingdom have not anointed it.Comic Sans is a playful, goofy looking font. It’s a good choice for less serious communication scenarios. What is wrong with that? So, I take issue with the presumption that Comic Sans is not an option for you. It is. Don’t let graphic design bullies force you to live below your privileges
