What Do You Think Of These Other Culture And Groups Users On Yahoo Answers

What are the demographics of people who use Yahoo Answers?

From the content that I had seen in the past 7 years, they usually consist of:White Americans, mostly male, who are either:Young men and some women who enjoy trolling, either because of the site’s poor condition and reputation, or as a hobbyFanatical liberalsFanatical conservatives (more common — libs and cons battle it out at the politics section)Racialists and other racist trolls (Other Cultures and Groups section)Spammers, trollsFanatical ChristiansFanatical atheists (Christians and atheists battle at the Religion and Spirituality section)Ordinary people who get caught in those groups’ crossfire (majority)Some other Whites from other countries, and the trolls are just a loud portion that even the others avoid.Non-Whites, who are more frequent at the Entertainment section:Ordinary people (majority)Trolls and spammers(Some fanatical) liberalsThe occasional conservativeOccasional people who bring up their own local issues (like from India)Racist trolls who hate WhitesSome religious people (such as Muslims)For White Americans being the majority of Y!A users, it is not a surprise as they are more able to afford the technology to access Yahoo Answers, and that it is also because many of them (who seek quick help or fun) are like the demographics of their country, being the majority. It may also be due to many of them taking advantage of the site’s poor moderation and reputation to troll other users and each other, or to espouse mostly-conservative or Evangelical views, whereas most other Whites avoid this site for the same reasons or for its lack of trendiness. The website is also now declining, as more users are leaving Y!A.For examples of what I listed above, check out the “Politics”, “Religion and Spirituality”, “Other Cultures and Groups”, and “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender” sections. The “Politics” and “RnS” sections are the most active sections in this other mostly-inactive site.

What are the politics like in Yahoo! Answers?

The website’s politics would mostly consist of people railing complaints against the other side (e.g. liberals hating on conservatives, conservatives hating against liberals) and who scream bigoted curses (especially of the racist type if political affiliation is not enough). Much of it would be centered on American issues, as most of them are from the US.That is from my experiences at the Politics and Other Cultures and Groups sections.

What would happen if Yahoo! Answers and Quora merged?

It’s already happening as we speak!I know it’s hard to believe but such a fusion is taking place as we speak. Although, that merger isn’t taking place in the conventional sense. Quora and Yahoo never had any such deals as far as I know. So why am I saying that it’s already happening?Well! What I am trying to say is that Quora is trying to become more Yahoo Answers like in nature. Remember the recent changes? Remember this happening?I was as outraged as your average outraged Quora member when question details were removed. However, I didn’t understand just how bad the problem was until something happened to me recently. What happened was that I was going through certain technical subjects and came across a few questions that are very interesting. Then it occurred to me that Quora has a lot of STEM and philosphy people who’d be able to explore the ideas further if I shared it here.So what happened next? Well, the absence of the question details made it extremely hard for me to present my case with adequate details. None of the questions were things you could just throw out there and expect a person to answer it satisfactorily. So I just gave up and wondered if I should instead be asking questions like “If there was a battle between tea and coffee, who do you think would win?”.The thing is that there’s a lot of us who prefer online forums to discuss certain technical topics where we can write about the issues and present our cases properly. Quora wasn’t as good as that but at least had the feature that enabled us to at least attempt at addressing complex issues on this platform. What did that mean for Quora? It meant that people who like discussing such complex issues didn’t have to spend their time on forums. They could simply create an account here and enjoy everything from technical issues requiring some elaboration all the way to things like “Why I don’t like celebrity X” type of things. The removal of the question details turned Quora back into another question and answer site for me. Now if you add the problem of the abuse of the report feature by trolls or people trying to silence you, I really don’t think that we are that far away from becoming Yahoo Answers. As the site grows, these abuses will scale up too. Add the fact that we are now being slowly guided towards only discussing simpler issues and you’ll soon realize that we are probably almost certainly headed towards that future.

What do you think of these users?

Chuckles is funny and pretty smart when it comes to most things, seems like a good guy to me overall
Bazz B is hilarious, I love how abrasive he can be at times and how he says things exactly how he sees them without holding back; also bretty smart when it comes to certain things
Miranda is a very good boy. I disagree with alot of his political views but other than that he can be smart in his own ways, he also is very brave and likes saying things how he sees them too. Also crazy, but in a good way, lol
Cato is a handsome genius. He knows that The Jews are behind alot of this and other nation's problems. Easily one of the smartest users when it comes to politics. It seems like he's not as hard as he might've been before on LGBT people but I haven't been back for that long. Either way I respect his views though I don't agree with all
Lust is a very horny and perverted boi at times, but thats part of why I love him! He's such an adorable little angel whose full of love and cuddliness

What can we do to help clean up Yahoo?

*It's so sad to see that the quality is getting reduced every single day. It's hard for the officials to go through every single question & get it removed. Few of the users are planning to lend a hand. I think u already know about (I’ve seen your comments in Richard's Page). But still 'reporting abuse' is never an absolute Solution. I've never reported anyone until yesterday when I decided to join the movement! My first step always is mailing the user & advising him to stop the practise in future. In most cases, people don't care about violation notices, but a personal mail might be a better option. Anyone can get a yahoo! ID in a matter of few minutes & they can always return with a new name, even if they get suspended. So a personal mail might influence the attitude of the person. But few questions on religion or politics meant to ignite feelings against a nation or religion must be reported.

*Altering the existing scheme of point system- lots of people just go mad about 2 points. A scheme has to be thought of to reward quality, at the same time give some prestige points to regular users (Otherwise their efforts so far get less recognized). Instead of a point system based on a single index, a rank system based on 6-7 factors can be thought of. Users never need to worry about the complex equations used.

* Forming user communities (I know u already have one. But give more access to newer members. I don’t know much about your group). When a user gets recognition, he’s forced to give quality answers, just due to peer pressure!

*Transition stage of users-Once a user is made to stay for longer periods in the site, he might get an idea about the essence of the site. He might be inspired to raise his standard. But this again is a cyclic process .The motivating factor has to be the quality of the site. Regular users should come up with better questions. (In my case- after my first 80 odd answers, I’m much more selective now. Still stuck with 1100 odd points. I strive for perfection in my answers now, just pick few in my field of expertise. I’m improving, but still learning)

*Using answers as ads – Just leave a public message after every single answer u give, asking users to improve quality. Do it as groups. Or else u get laughed at. When a group does it, it’s a trend!

Lgbt: do you have any inside jokes with other users?

If I told you, it wouldn't be an inside joke anymore, now would it Harley?
