What does it mean when a company has folded?

When a business fails and is forced to permanently close, stopping all their operations and laying off all their employees, the informal way to state this action is to say the business folded.

The game developer and publisher THQ filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2012, and all of the company assets, including the games, were sold via a bankruptcy auction. The company permanently closed their doors in January 2013, laying off all employees. The following short list shows some of the games and the companies which acquired the intellectual property of each.

-- Koch Media acquired Saint's Row by purchasing Volition, Metro
-- Crytek acquired Homefront
-- Take-Two acquired the unannounced game Evolve

they wanna know how well you can, lets say, kiss *** in written text

find out what the store values are by, i duno, their mission statement. most companies shud have it online.. if they have a site.

so find that out, and say thats what u value in a place you would work for, and make it seem like u figured it out on ur own. heh.

ohh just in case..
-they want to noe what made u choose to work there as apposed to other surf shops and shops in general. what makes them special.
-they wanna know what kind of image they have with the public.

so answer it by restating what the company says they strive for as a business
thus, mayb - what i like about ur company is the attention u pay to staff training, customer satisfaction and overall store and product quality. this to me means ur a serious busniess that will open career oppourtunites and help me further develop key skills for this industry.

or something like that

What does a company's brand value mean?

There are several interpretation over the value of a brand. My interpretation of brand value is how much you get in business over replacement. In other words if you offered me two cans of soda, one generic brand for $1 and one that is coke for $2 and I buy the coke the brand value (in this case anyway) is $1 per can. This is because in essence both cans are cola. If I really just want cola there is no reason for me to take the $2 can over the $1 can. Except I am willing to pay $1 more BECAUSE the brand is coke. Now it's very hard to measure this on a macro level because everyone values things differently. As a quick an dirty way of measuring brand value that is the approach I take.

What does it truly mean to have a 4% stake in a company?

First of all and most importantly, it’s a sign that your boss/co-founder is trustworthy. And that’s a big deal. Now, most startup employees get very happy about owning any % of the startup they work at, but the truth is 9 out of 10 times it’s worthless and before a mob lynches me, I will explain why below…Most investor agreements will state that the startup can’t pay dividends. This means that your stock *might* make you money only if the startup gets acquired or IPOsMost investors have preferred stocks, which means that if a startup gets acquired, they get paid first and *if* there are money left after this, this goes to the rest of the shareholders (you as an employee).A lot depend on the agreements of the shareholders and how the investements are structured (debt or not?), but let’s walk through a few examples:Company raises $50 mil in all funding rounds, gets sold for $30 milThe $30 mil go to the investors and founders, because $30 mil > $50 mil. You as an employee get nothing.Company raises $50 mil in all funding rounds as debt, gets sold for $60 milInvestors get paid back their $50 mil and you get 4% of the $10 mil that’s left, assuming your stock has not been diluted. Still, solid money.Company raises $50 mil in all funding rounds, gets sold for $300 milCongratulations, you just made a ton of money working as an employee for a startup while getting tremendous experience and buidling a solid background.Bottom line is: 8 out of 10 startups fail, 1 breaks even and 1 is hugely profitable. You have a 10% chance of working for the hugely profitable one.I am very up for taking equity when you can and it’s a gamble for a really good payout while you work at a startup you believe in and while building a very valuable skillset. But, know where you stand and don’t get overly hyped about it or salivate if your friends do get more stock options than you…

What exactly does the "cash" held by a company mean?

The cash literally means retained earnings or investor capital that is not being used to pay out dividends or reinvested into building the business. It is basically sitting there in the company's coffers. More specifically, the cash is invested in a variety of assets that are safe, liquid, and typically short duration (think short-term Treasury bills). Ideally, the money is being warehoused there such that if an opportunity arises and the company needs the money to invest in business ventures or pay down its debt, it will have the money at the ready. That's how it works in theory. In practice, there are many companies (particularly in the technology sector) that have way more cash than they could conceivably invest in a short time horizon. And they're not being paid out as dividends. So this sucks for investors. The cash just sits there, making very little interest and low return on capital. In other instances, a company may earn a substantial portion of its revenues overseas, at which point the cash would have to be stored overseas where the revenue was generated (there is a massive tax if you want to move that cash across borders). As a result, sometimes the cash is not really readily available.
