What happens if my retainer breaks? ?
BE REALLY CAREFUL AND YOU PROBABLY WON'T LOOSE OR BREAK IT. WHEN YOU GET THE BRACES OFF ASK THE ORTHODONTIST TO SAVE YOUR RETAINER MOLD. THEN IF YOU LOOSE IT CONTACT SOMEONE BY EMAIL, LIKE MOM, AND HAVE HER CONTACT THE ORTHODONTIST TO HAVE A NEW ONE MADE. WHEN YOU GET HOME IT WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU. IF THE ORTHODONTIST CAN'T SAVE THE MOLD, BECAUSE SOMETIMES THEY ARE DESTROYED WHEN THE RETAINER IS MADE...JUST CONTACT HIM AS SOON AS YOU GET HOME. YOUR TEETH MAY MOVE ALITTLE BUT HE WILL BE ABLE TO GET YOU BACK ON TRACK WITH THE NEW RETAINER. DON'T WORRY AND JUST BE CAREFUL. REMEMBER IF IT'S IN YOUR MOUTH, YOU WON'T LOOSE IT. PS...DO NOT WRAP IT IN A NAPKIN WHEN YOU EAT.
My retainer is moldy, what do i do?
you see.. i accidently left my retainer in a cup of tea because i didnt have anywhere else to put it because everything in my friends house is dirty.. and i left it over at there house by accident and didnt get it back for 7 days of course i asked for it but they continued to forget so i went over to there house myself to get it and it was litterally floating in moldy tea and has build up on it. i dont know if i can boil it or not and dont have 300 $ to get a new one.. i dont know if i can ever use it again after seeing it.. uhgggg
Does getting a retainer mold hurt?
no, it wouldnt hurt.. they will put the clay in your mouth and get the molding.. you may have gag reflex.. try not to breath through your mouth but through your nose.. they have many flavors of mold. usually if you pick a flavor you like it is not as bad as one that smells and tastes bad.. relax yourself and you will be fine.. I am getting my braces off on Tuesday (about time, I'm one of only a few seniors in my high school who still has braces). I'm happy, but I'm nervous because I've heard that the retainer mold they give you makes you gag. Is this true? Anything I can try to make sure I don't gag? How long does it take them to do this?

It would be unusable, do it again.A mound does not reach its full strength for days after pouring.

I have taken hundreds of impressions and here's the trick we use where I work- Breathe thru your mouth, almost like a dog "panting", but not that fast. This keeps your tongue away the "mold" material and will help you to not gag. Make sure whoever is doing it knows you had a bad experience, and ask if they can make the material "set-up" faster by using warmer water.
What is it like toget a retainer mold taken???
It takes twenty seconds per mold...don't worry, once you get in the chair just start breathing through your nose deeply and once the mold is in you won't even notice it. Generally the mold is pretty tasteless, and I have to say the worst part is just getting some of the stuff off your teeth. Sometimes you have the option to choose a flavor, but I would just go with the tasteless mold.
I recently lost my retainers, but I found the mold of my tooth. I was wondering if I could cover the tooth mold with something and somehow make a new retainer?
Well, potentially with a 3D printer, you might be able to recreate your retainer. However, you will need a very special plastic (for the kind of retainer currently used most often.) This plastic has to be very firm and resilient to maintain the shape under the pressure of teeth trying to move back to their original position.It’s probably best to return to the orthodontist and get a new one. My daughter’s orthodontist allowed 1 replacement retainer for free. He knew kids tend to loose them.
Retainer Molds? How long after will I get my braces off?
So I go to the orthodontist next Monday the 27th. They said I will be getting the mold for my retainer. My question is how long after I take my retainer mold will I get my braces off? The same day? within a week ? etc. Thanks!(:
