What Happens If I Check Myself Into Hospital

If i check myself into mental hospital can they take my child away.?

i have been suffering from horrible depression for weeks now. My marriage is falling apart by job is falling apart and I feel like my world is caving in on me.
I have a 2 year old daughter. I would NEVER EVER HURT her. No matter what a bad mother i feel like I am everyone keeps saying that i am a good mom. She is all I have. She is the only reason I keep getting up in the morning. She is the only one who can make me smile.
I have been thinking about suicide but I dont have the guts to do it.
I wanna go to the hospital because I have those thoughts and because I wanna get help ASAP. It could take months for me to get in with a psychiatrist as there is only one here. And I feel crazy. I feel like I am having a nervous breakdown. I think I might even be mildly bipolar. Bu I am terrified that they will take my child away if I go. That my husband can take her away or my family or CFS. I just wanna get help but I can't risk losing my child. not only that I would lose my job and we need it. Unfortunately its temporary and will most likely end before may or June. But she needs me I am her babysitter. And they would have to call in sick if I am not there. and if I am gone for a week they will find someone else I am sure. i I have no clue what to do. i am in canada if that helps.

What happens if I check into a mental hospital?

I have been in and out of psych wards for my bi-polar. So hopefully I can give you some help. But I live in New Zealand and different countries have different rules.

If you put yourself into hospital voluntarily you still have to take whatever meds the doctors tell you to take and you can't actually discharge yourself at your own will UNLESS the doctors agree that you are ready to be discharged.

If you leave without the doctors consent they can section you under the mental health act and bring you back into hospital against your will.

However, once in a hospital, I personally have found the care to be very helpful and my longest stay was 3 weeks for a manic episode. I've been in both voluntarily and also through being sectioned.

Have you thought of respite care? Usually its available through the public mental health and its more low key. You can leave when you want and you get plenty of rest and time out from lifes chores.

All the best in whatever you decide.

What happens when you check into a mental hospital?

I'm gonna keep this somewhat short and sweet.
1. If you're a minor you must have a guardian check you in. If of age, you schedule a phone interview (or in extreme crisis go to ER or straight to the mental hospital in question, depending on the hospital.)

2. Where you go will determine insurance coverage. If it doesn't cover, anywhere from 300-1000+ dollars a week. ( I'd recommend a hospital with insurance coverage.)

3. The average stay for an inpatient hospital (for people in crisis) is a week. For residential programs, anywhere from 2 weeks to several months. Minimum is usually 5 days.

4. Tell school what is going on. Most schools will make the proper arragements for keeping up with work and missed classes. The school should most definitely be made aware of the situation.

5. I've been hospitalized in places like this around..9 times. Your success level will strongly depend on your location. In all honesty, I felt outpatient was a more effective route for mental illness. Do NOT go on medication. It will make problems worse for you and it will not help. I recovered AFTER being taken off medication. Unless in some special occasions where persons with bipolar disorder and OCD can be benefited.

Best of luck.

What will happen when I check myself in for 14 days at a hospital in order to do a medical/hospitalized opioid withdrawal as offered by my psychiatrist?

Depends on the hospital and provider. Check your state laws, but generally speaking where I am from, a psychiatric hospital can only hold you against your will (involuntarily), if you are a danger to your self, a danger to others, or if you have a severe functional impairment. And by the way, a probate court judge decides on involuntary commitment, and the judges that I have met take it very seriously to remove someone’s civil rights like that.14 days sounds like a residential program after completing a detox program, and depending on the program, you may be asked to leave if you do not adhere to the milieu treatment. My philosophy is to be nice to people, and if I were given the privilege to provide detoxification services I would want my patient as comfortable as possible. I can’t speak for everyone though, I am a nurse, but some doctors feel the same way, some nurses don’t.This is an illness, and can be a terminal illness. I have seen it many times. I would do my research, but not wait too long. I really like that you say “withdrawal as offered.” Offered sounds positive to me.Best of luck.

Do you think I really should check myself into a mental hospital ward for my problems ?

I just can't seem to help myself because I am manic depressed also known as bi polar disorder and I have mood swings. I also think that by me not having a girlfriend makes me even worser. I want to get into that arranged marriage thing right away but my mother delayed it to after i finish college. There are some days i feel good some days i feel miserable and it just keeps on cycling. I am starting a 2 year college in May so I know I won't be finish anytime soon to get married in Vietnam. I need a girl in my life right now but I cannot get a girlfriend because no girls likes me. My parents had to call the police to our house often because of me and they say they are going to arrest me and charge me if this continues. Do you think I really should check myself in a psychiatric ward in a local hospital ?? The psychiatric ward is on the 7th floor in a 14 story hospital building. Would I Ever get released if I check myself in ?? Some people told me you would never get released so Never Ever Ever check yourself into those wards.

What is the best way to check yourself into a mental hospital?

I’m on board with the people suggesting going to the ER. It sounds like something you’d only do if you were dying, but that’s actually how you do it.You don’t need to call 911 unless it’s an emergency. Like if you’re about to hurt yourself and it’s best that you not go anywhere or do anything until someone else shows up. The person who’s going to hurt themselves now likely needs that ambulance.I’ve never been in the latter situation, but if you are of sound mind and can travel and are just like, “I think it would be a good idea for me to check myself in,” then go to the ER. They will likely make you wait for hours since you are honestly the lowest priority person to show up in the “Emergency Room.” You are entirely unimportant while in the ER. Remember that. It’s nothing personal. Eventually you will get talked to and checked in.*Just remember, if you change your mind, run like hell and don’t agree to sit in any rooms with lockable doors. Somehow, despite a lack of suicidal tendencies AT ALL, they’ll hold you for 2 weeks out of obligation despite having no idea what to do with the “perfectly fine” you. At this point, despite voluntarily arriving, you will end up being involuntarily committed. Go figure!

Can I check myself into a mental hospital without insurance?

Many people, needing a place to stay, perhaps homeless, ejected from halfway houses for drug use, or just having severe symptoms, present themselves to emergency departments or freestanding psychiatric hospitals, saying they want to kill themselves. Often they are admitted. ER doctors recognize repeat offenders and may NOT admit them, figuring they are malingering. Either not insurance, or insurance may not cover drug treatment or medication stabilization they need, so they say they are suicidal. Of course some people really are a danger to themselves or others, and certainly need admission. Collection process applies to everybody, but a homeless person, they won’t be able to collect. Usually frequent patients end up with Medicaid or Medicare (if they get on federal disability benefits). This is for Americans. Other countries may have national health for everybody. I have a patient from the United States, he traveled to New Zealand and got a mental health crisis. His family told us that they admitted him for 6 weeks there, didn’t charge at all. There was a NY Times article back, in rural China, they had county mental hospitals but you had to pay. A man with schizophrenia was very aggressive, they put him in a cage at home in the living room. He broke out and killed his mother. Then they hospitalized him.

How can i commit myself into a mental hospital?

If you have no money or insurance. Just walk in to any ER (Better if they have a psych ward) And tell them you are going to kill yourself. And be convincing. Show them your cuts.
If you have insurance and a doctor. tell your doctor you need to be admitted.
That usually works. At least for a while.
Feel better

Can I check myself into a mental hospital without parental consent? I'm 16 and live in Wisconsin.

This from the Wisconsin Coalition for Advocacy:Voluntary admission of children to inpatient psychiatric facilities is much more complex than the admission of adults, since young children cannot consent to treatment. Traditionally, parents have provided the consent for them. However, it has also been recognized that the interests of the parent and the interests of the child may not always be in agreement. Therefore, certain procedures have been set up to safeguard the rights of the children involved and to monitor the appropriateness of psychiatric inpatient admissions. For a child under age 14, the parent or guardian executes the voluntary admission to a psychiatric hospital. For a child 14 years and older, both the parent or guardian and the child must consent to the admission. (Note: In order for a parent to give a valid consent, s/he must have legal custody of the child.) If the child wishes admission but the parent refuses or is unavailable, a petition may be filed with the court for a hearing to determine whether the child should be admitted.
