What Is Calming To You About The Ocean

Why is the ocean or lake so calming?

Why is the ocean or lake so calming?Because floating around with some white noise of liquid swishing around nearby is like being in the womb. Its great for babies. Its great when you grow up too, because its your first comforting memory.

Why do you feel calm around an ocean?

In Genesis we read that God created the earth and the deep waters at the same time, eons ago. While I hold this to be myth, I like to hope that the oceans will be present long after I'm gone. The Bible describes oceans are the "voice'" of God/the creative force speaking to us, and I can go along with that. As others post, waters are a calming presence, sort of like the peaceful Buddha seated before us or like a monk in meditation. They smooth over the cares of the world, and help us to believe that in time all manners of things will be well.

Why is that you can pull a ship using a rope when the ocean is calm?

The running drag of a vessel on calm waters at slow speeds is very low.Initially you have to overcome its inertia - i.e. a massive ship will take a lot of energy to start moving,On calm water drag is low so once moving takes little effor t to keep moving. Small waves, and current and wind to overcome will add greatly to the drag.

The sea was as calm as ...(simile) ... ?

your hair not blowing in the wind

Why do I feel calm looking at the sea?

What do you see when you hang out with your friends ? In case of me, I would see a bunch of joyous lads jiving their lives in melody . The happiness,  the goody atmosphere, mutual cognizance are things I wouldn't want to miss out.The sea is no less.It is the special dimension where serenity, peace and harmony blend in . I see the sea as a portal to the truth of eternity and tranquility....the true art of living. Besides this element of life has its own rights; showing distress, solitude and merry at its will. It is like a gate where one can take back what was lost. The  sea is the reflection of your friends soul, rival's soul, the world's  soul ... and ultimately you own soul.

How long should you wait after shaving to swim in the ocean?

If you have cuts on your legs it will sting a bit but the ocean will help them because it's salt water. It will only sting at first, you'll be fine to go swimming tomorrow though :)

What causes patterns on a calm ocean surface?

focusing/defocusing currents that push/pull a lot of water mass to/from a location. This is especially dramatic in shallow waters when the bottom topography changes quickly, affecting the dynamics of the currents. This is easily seen on a flowing river over complex river beds.waves focusing and defocusing, producing a residual flow that competes with currents.upwelling/downwelling: the ocean’s density depends on its salinity and its temperature. These compete to provide water parcels with a tendency to sink or upwell; lighter/warmer waters will tend to rise and currents form as the ocean tries to find a stable configuration. Ocean currents can enhance or compete with buoyancy forces to produce intense enough upwelling/downwelling, which can be dramatic enough, for example, close to shore lines where the ocean depth changes quickly. You might then see this circulation with the naked eye.a strong underwater source or sink of water. The sinking or surfacing of ships or schools of wildlifesteady surface currents that impinge on a wall and is forced downward will produce a shelf-like pattern on the surfacesubs and marine wildlife moving close to the ocean surfacea very dramatic moving pattern on the ocean surface, characterized by intense local roughness of the ocean surface, is the reaction of the sea surface to the passing of internal waves. Internal waves can be extremely large in amplitude and travel on sharp density differences, within the water column (search internal wave images from space).(not exactly calm waters) when waves destabilize currents producing Langmuir circulation cells which are seen as windrows aligned along current directions. (search Langmuir cells windrows images)

Why is the sound of waves crashing on a beach so calming?

To me, water is poetry in motion and the sight or sound of it immediately alchemizes me, transforming my energy and transporting me to a calming state of consciousness. For millenniums humans have known that water has magical powers. Now science is confirming that there are powerful chemical reactions that occur in our brains when we are near or in water.Whether the water looks as blue as the Nile River of Egypt or has a greenish brown murky hue, or has crashing waves or flows quietly or tinkles musically like the rain, there is magic in the water.A week or so ago as I sat by the Whitaker Bayou in Sarasota, Florida, this poem wrote me — I did no write it. I was simply gazing at rippling wonder of beauty of the water and I opened my mouth and this poem poured out:There is a scientific reason why the sight or sound of water immediately creates a sense of calm. Our brain is 75% water, says Wallace J. Nichols, we have a natural affinity with water. His website has amazing information: Changing conversations for good.Wallace J. Ocean gets you high on Ozone??

No that makes absolutely no sense at all and it saddens me that someone who thinks that would qualify for the academic team. Ozone is created by electric fields or currents which split o2 molecules. Some of the free oxygen atoms then recombine to form o2 atoms, others combine to form o3 (ozone). Also some ozone is made via chemical reactions in smog catalyzed by sunlight. The ozone in the upper atmosphere is the result of oxygen-containing molecules interacting with UV light. No ozone is made in or around the ocean (except for where lightning strikes). The ocean is calming because of the repetitive sounds, also if you are out on a boat, the waves will calm you if they don't make you sea sick. And for some people, they find the ocean comforting because they grew up around it (seriously, I know a lot of ppl who are like this).

Additionally, you can't get high on ozone. Large quantities are poisonous but small quantities don't get you high. It has a distinctive smell so you would know if any was around. If you want to know what ozone smells like, it's the smell the ionic breeze makes. sometimes it smells like that in bars because they use ozone to neutralize the smell of cigarette smoke. If you ever smell something that smells "like electricity" that is ozone. I work out on the ocean and I have never smelled ozone out here.
