What is the future of business process outsourcing (BPO) in the Philippines?

My opinion, and we have a team in the Philippines, is that it is going to go from strength to strength. If the business is operating in a country where English is the first language, the Philippines is likely to be a reasonable choice for outsourcing. Depending on who you believe, the work-ready population of the Philippines is somewhere between 30 and 60 million people. For the most part, English language skills are pretty good and their cultural understanding of countries like the United States and Australia is very good. For Australia, there is the added advantage of the time zone alignment with Perth and only two hours difference with the major Australian cities on the east coast.The level of experience in successful outsourcing is growing all of the time with nuances like foreign language accent courses becoming more popular, increasing the usefulness of those workers in more client-facing roles.The level of skill, depending on the specific outsourcing tasks is still a little variable in highly skilled roles. I think that a lot of this is dependent on whether you can actually gain access to the best local talent there because there are some very large players who have been there for quite a long time and likely have developed networks to bring in new, young talent. There is also a general consensus that many of the higher skilled workers choose to travel abroad in order to gain access to western wages.
