What Is It Called When You Eat Very Little Or One Mean Per Day

Has eating one meal a day worked for anyone?

I did that once for six weeks. It works well, but as soon as I started eating agin the weight came right back.

What happens to your body when you only eat one meal a day?

A lot of people eat once a day but I would say that very active people would really suffer exhaustion and deficiencies if they did this regularly. A couch potato may get away with it but they are more likely to be the ones who eat much more than that. I think it best to take a high quality mineral supplement especially in a liquid form to add to this one meal a day, and another dose at another time of day, especially if the purpose is to lose weight. The body will hold on to the excess weight if it’s not getting enough nutrition. If it’s for health purposes, the body will be relieved from all the extra digestion that it doesn’t have to do, but there is still the question of getting enough nutrition. If the meal was extremely large, larger than normally eaten, then that is not a good thing. (trying to make up for the lack of food in the rest of the day). The digestion prefers smaller meals so that it can all be handled satisfactorily. The food that is not handled properly can ferment, cause gas and bloated feelings and even pain associated with faulty digestion. If a person is truly not hungry enough to eat more than one meal a day, then it may be a good thing to do, providing you have the extra minerals. I would still say do it on a temporary basis though. All the best, Robyn :)

What happens if you exercise but eat very little?

Your basal metabolic rate accounts for about 60 to 75 percent of the calories you burn every day. Basal metabolic rate means calories burned at rest. The release, and using, of energy in this state is sufficient only for the functioning of the vital organs, the heart, lungs, nervous system, kidneys, liver, intestine, sex organs, muscles, and skin. My metabolism alone would burn about 1600 calories a day from doing absolutely nothing. So if you mean you burned 400 calories through activity alone you are actually losing more like 1000 calories a day.

What will happen if a person eats only once a day?

Contrary to popular thought, we can digest everything in huge meals given enough time. So one large meal that covers your calorific (macronutrient) needs and mineral/vitamin (micronutrient) needs is fine for maintenance - if you are an otherwise healthy individual. If you want to lose bodyfat, one meal per day could be a good strategy as you could limit your food intake all day long, then have a blow out meal before retiring for the night, but still remain a few hundred calories lower than your maintenance calories (about 2000 calories) for an average man. By the way the "calories" spoken of are usually referring to kilo calories - kcals. Look it up if you need a better definition. One problem with eating once per day to maintain your weight might be the amount of food you would have to eat at one sitting. Adding extra healthy fats could be the solution as fat provides a lot of calories (9kcal per gram compared to carbs and protein at 4 kcals) and takes up a lot less space in your stomach. If you tried to get 2000 kcals from leafy vegetables in one sitting you might pop! You would have to eat a bucket load - literally - as they are almost all water and fibre. At my physiotherapy practice in Northampton - Brackmills Physio Clinic, we work with some athletes who stick mainly to one large meal in the evening, because of the nature of their training. Some MMA fighters we work with, avoid food during the day as they need to feel "light" when training. Hydration is very important though, so going without water is counterproductive.Psychologically, it becomes quite easy to go without food during the day, when you look forward to a "reward" in the form of a large meal at night.

Is it anorexic if I only have one meal a day?

Actually, no.This is considered a form of intermediate fasting and if it works for you, is perfectly fine despite what anyone else says.I have been eating a single meal a day for upwards of a decade and I'm a healthy guy.I weigh 220 at 5'11. I'm losing weight, but I'm not exactly bulimic, anorexic, or have any real eating disorders. One meal a day, for me it's dinner, is perfectly acceptable in maintaining my weight and I even manage to gain at times. However, if you experience UNEXPLAINABLE weight loss or gain, may be worth looking into with your doctor. Do not take chances. For me, I'm a mesomorph body type and works fine for me.Hope this helps,Good Luck!
