What don't you like about living in West Palm Beach, FL?

Traffic. Merging onto I-95 in the morning or afternoon rush hours, it becomes glaringly obvious there are far too people in cars then the current highway system can handle; add to that the constant construction underway, leads to a nightmare senario. And let there be an accident….

What is it like to live in West Palm Beach, FL?

I lived there for about 10 years.Weather: Hot and muggy in the summer, which lasts from March through the end of October. That means 90+ degrees every day, 95% humidity, and a heavy summer shower every afternoon. In the two weeks of lovely winter weather (some time in mid-January), it's dry, clear and beautiful.Crowding: Very. Especially during the tourist season, which runs from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Spring Break can be even worse.Culture: Pretty amazing. There are concerts, shows, arts, and all sorts of venues to explore the higher end of entertainment. Nightlife: If you like the club scene, Clematis Street and City Place are fantastic places.Cost: High. Florida in general and south Florida in particular is expensive. However, salary levels are commensurately high in most areas. Nature: You have to get out of town to get real nature. Everything is paved over. Go west or south to the Everglades, or out on the ocean. North to Jupiter, or way south to the Keys.

What are some of the pros and cons of living in West Palm Beach?

***PROS***-The Beach!-West Palm is a small manageable city (Palm Beach is a small manageable county!). It has all the perks of living in a city but is still manageable like living in a little town.-Traffic is decent (unless Trump is home/See Cons)-If you have kids, many public schools are dual language, half of the days of the week fully taught in English, the other half in Spanish. (You can opt out this program if for some reason you wouldn’t like your kid to be bilingual).-You can ride the tri-Rail to Miami if you don’t want to drive. (Which can take hours, depending on traffic)-It has its own international airport (PBI) but FLL and MIA are pretty close too, so you can play with airplane ticket deals and offers.-The Outlets-There are no tolls on I-95 all along Palm Beach County.-Real Estate is not ridiculously overpriced like in Miami.***CONS ***-When President Trump is in town traffic is impossible.-There’s literally just two ways out: I-95 or the Turnpike (which are parallel highways).-Although pretty much all type of medical specialties/tratments can be found in the area, sometimes it’s necessary to travel to Miami for highly specialized care.

What is West Palm Beach, FL known for?

West Palm Beach is a very livable city - it's large enough so most things you want are here, but still has something of a small town, intimate feel.  As long as you have a car, it's exceptionally easy to navigate and get around.  Traffic is rarely a problem and parking is free or inexpensive except during major events.Even though nearby Palm Beach Island is most known for its wealth, there is plenty of money in West Palm, too.  We were originally a community where Palm Beach's maids and servants lived.  But as Palm Beach real estate became increasingly outrageous, the cost of West Palm housing was bid up, too.  This means high housing prices, but it also means an incredible range of amenities.  Want your $15,000 a pair speakers?  We got two (or more) stores that sell them.  Want your Ferrari, Aston Martin or Rolls?  Choice of dealers. It's known as a high crime city, but the reality is that if you stick to the pleasant parts, crime is rare to non-existant.  In over three years living here, I've never had a problem.West Palm Beach is thought of as relatively boring compared to Miami, but the traffic is much lighter and drivers, generally, do not seem to want to kill you.  Parking is easy and cheap (mostly free) everywhere, even Downtown.  And the big-city thrills of Miami, for better or worse, are only about an hour away whenever you need them.West Palm Beach is not a good place for singles.  There aren't too many of us here. For some reason, nearly everyone I've dated has been damaged horribly from the detritus of past relationships. This is a place people go to for a fresh start, but sometimes their inner demons follow.Miami, on the other hand, is a great place to be single, and it's just an hour away. Too bad Miamians think West Palm Beach is some kind of Siberia.Due to the weather and upscale environment, people want to live here.  This means the cost of housing and other necessities are bid up high compared to salaries.  However, it's still cheap compared to Miami, which has a hideously expensive rental market. So:  A genuinely nice place, better for married couples than singles.  A much less stressful environment than Miami, but far less excitement, too.

Is Palm Beach, Florida an expensive place to live?

If you are referring to the city, yes, extremely so….think summers on Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard with the Smythe-Beddows at the yacht club expensive. If you are referring to the County, there are some high end places, but also a lot of middle and lower class (And some where gunfire and the sound of sirens is as common as sand in your shoes at the beach. Many of these places are in such close proximity to each other that you can be driving along a well kept neighborhood, turn a corner and feel like you entered a third world country. In terms of expensive to live and exist…I went to a great Tex Mex called Rosilita's, an iconic place and dropped 80 dollars on food and drinks, three weeks later I went to the original Tacos el Cabrone, and for twenty dollars had more food than the two of us could handle…both are excellent, both are within four miles of each other…Remember though, if you work for the State up North you want to work for the county down here, by constitutional law, the county is superior to the state…FHP troopers make about 39k a year, whereas deputy sheriff's make well more in most places….and half of your pay is in sunshine.

Is West Palm Beach, FL safe?

Yes, don’t worry! West Palm Beach is definitely safe! It’s a nice area in the northernmost county of the South Florida metropolitan area. According to statistics, West Palm Beach has an extremely low crime rate. You don’t have to have the least worries about safety in the city. Of course, it’s better to bear in mind some common safety guidelines when alone, especially at night. With the decrease of crime, robbery seemed not to drop in the last few years. So be cautious of your personal property when outing.

As for the weather conditions inn West Palm Beach, you’ll love its tropical monsoon climate. Summer months (May through October) are usually hot and humid. The highest temperature can be 90°F and the lowest temperature can be 21°F. During these summer days, you may encounter afternoon thunderstorms and seabreezes.

West Palm Beach has a mild winter. It’s neither too hot nor too cold. So it’s obviously a great place for living.

Well, you know West Palm Beach is just a part of Miami. You can also consider many other areas if you like. As you’re not familiar with the greater Miami area, I think you can search the craigslist for more local info. Have a look at the following website and you may find more useful info.

What is the best place to live for a young couple in West Palm Beach, FL?

Hi, long time WPB resident here. Also came from Philadelphia.Have you visited here yet? City Place is probably the closest you will get to the city feel. The area has condos, townhouses, bars, movie theater, Improv, restaurants & stores and the Kravis Center, which is where we have concerts & shows. I’m going there in June to see Trevor Noah, for instance. It is also, FYI, very close to the arts high school in PBC. Nonetheless, its a nice area, well kept, well policed and higher energy. Also, coming from Philly, the biggest shock to me is the absolute lack of public transit in PBC. Both of you will need cars. Sharing a car can even be tough.Delray would be my 2nd thought, its a “happening” area. Depending on where you look you could be very close to the beach. Being close to the water is good and bad - good most of the time, very bad when there’s a hurricane. Its also 20–40 minutes from WPB depending on traffic. I go to yoga in Delray and during season its a 45–60 minute drive; off season, 20.I95 is our main north/south highway. The closer you are to 95, the easier it is to get around.Wellington, Royal Palm Beach & Loxahatchee are west. Wellington is beautiful and horse-centric, RPB near Welly and very family oriented. I don’t know they condo/apartment situation out there, tbh. Depending upon where you guys work, it can be a real bitch to follow that communte every day, but I also don’t know what you’re used to for a commute. There is so much more, I don’t really know what else to address. I guess the easiest thing is to figure out your transportation, where you both work, and work outward from there. During season (October to Easter) traffic is a bitch. Snow birds are as bad as everyone says. From Easter to October, traffic is much better. If you want more information, hit me up with a response and specific questions. Best of luck with the move, hope you enjoy it down here!
