What Is The Best Color For The Doors On A Redwood Color Cedar Home

Can anyone recommend the best sealer for a redwood fence?

i build hexagon picnic tables out of redwood, or cedar, i have found that what works the best for me here in the midwest is boiled linseed oil, which is the main ingredient in most all sealers. redwood, and cedar both tend to turn a grayish color after time the linseed oil seems to keep them looker better for much longer than the commercial sealers, not to mention considerably cheaper. just make sure it is BOILED linseed oil, if not it will leave a sticky coating on the fence that will never dry

What color/type of stain can I use for redwood?

I can’t think of any stain that would benefit Redwood’s looks. If you are trying to change the color, any dark stain would make it look dull, since it really doesn’t have much of a grain. If you are trying to protect for outside furniture you might as well paint it your favorite color. But,If you want to bring out it’s natural beauty, the only thing I would add to what has already been said, is to sand it like you were going to paint a car.Get it down to as smooth as you can, then use extra fine steel wool to polish it.Then it can be finished with tung oil, linseed oil, teak oil or polyurethane etc. and when I say smooth I mean it. Make sure to vacuum or brush it really good and use a tack cloth before you add any finish. PS I’m sure you noticed that almost every carpenter doesn’t like the idea of staining it but Hey! it’s your wood!

What's a good color to paint a living room w/ hardwood floors?

What color are the floors? Dark like cherry or lighter like oak?

EDIT: Okay. If you want to make the room look bigger, then use a lighter color. I used a pale yellow (golden margarita) on one of my guest rooms and the room just pops even when there is no lights on. It looks more spacious. For a family room or living room, you can go more bold and use darker colors such as Wine or a deep red or maybe a darker green....any color really. This goes well if you have lighter furniture. It make the furniture stand out.
In my den (i have light wood floors) i have like a burnt orange which isn't too dark, with dark brown furniture. I like earthy tones though.
Hope this helps

What colors go well with cedar trim?

Not too long ago, I painted a clients/friend's beach home which is pretty much entirely constructed out of heart of pine ... floors; walls; cabinetry; some ceilings - cathedral and traditional. Not quite the same color as cedar - but the same idea. My client has an incredible eye .. especially for Whites for some reason. We ended up painting the large triangle walls below the beamed, cathedral ceiling in Benjamin Moore's Navajo White. Not stark white. But a calmer, more flowing white. Looked fantastic with the Heart of Pine. And imagine it would with your cedar as well. As far as the durability of cedar in moisture: a light coating of a Satin Varnish would protect them from nearly anything.... Just thinking: possibly a different Ben Moore color called "Atrium White" would work better with the cedar ... it has just the slightest pinkish hue to it, which might work even better with your cedar trim.

What paint color looks good with green trim?

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think "rhumba orange" (# 6642) might look terrific with the green.

You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

What color should I paint my front door?

This may sound crazy but I would try a cedar shade of green. The shutters will have to be repainted to match and doing all the trim on the house will set it off.Go to a Benjamin Moore dealer and have them pull up shades and matches for you till you find what you like. You may want to change the style door and stain a new one to match the siding, then only paint the casing.A door with the top half composed of some dark stained glass would be awesome.Good Luck!Enjoy and have fun with it!

What’s the best type of wood clapboard siding for a house?

Which wood species is best for outdoor furniture?

The three most widely available and suitable exterior lumber choices, not treated with chemical preservatives, include Western red cedar, redwood, and cypress. Your geographic location will determine the availability and cost of these materials. Redwood, for example, is widely available and used in the western United States. Western red cedar is commonly sold in the Midwest, and eastern U.S. cypress, Australia, which grows throughout the South and Southeast, often gets the nod in those locales due to its availability and economical price.Western red cedar and redwood stock tend to appear straight-grained and are dimensionally stable and naturally decay resistant. Both, however, can split when driving fasteners. Also, both species bleed tannins that make using fasteners and painting more problematic. The tannins appear as stains around fasteners and can even show through painted surfaces. Proper prepping of the wood, however, lets it accept all wood stains and clear finishes. The third major player, cypress, grows in swamps and has a conical base, with roots that seem to stand out of the water. Its sapwood is almost white, while the heartwood color varies from a light yellow brown to a reddish brown and dark brown. Inland cypress, like the sample shown here, has the lighter-colored heartwood. It features beautiful ashlike grain patterns and accepts finish as readily as redwood or cedar.Poynters10 Morningside Dr, Kingsland, Auckland 1025, New Zealand+64 9-815 1580Outdoor Furniture Auckland - Poynters

Cedar ceiling- what color to paint walls?

Wood ceilings are a lot more common in Europe than North America, so you might want to check some European interior design magazines if your local bookstore carries them. For example, Barnes and Noble does in our area.

To make the ceiling really show well, keep the wall colour simple, like cream, taupe, celadon green or pale yellow that picks up the lightness of the wood. If you choose a dark colour, you run the risk of the room becoming very dark and claustrophobic. With neutral wall paint, you can choose bedspreads and pillows that add punches of brightness, in fact you can change the mood of the room with the season.

Whatever you choose, make sure it's a colour you really love. Your bedroom should be a place that makes you feel calm and restful.
