What Is The Best Route To Become A Commercial Pilot

What is the best route to become a commercial pilot after college?

Private sounds like your best option, however you will not be trained in a 747 or any airliner until you are hired by an airline or can purchase one yourself....Instead you will be trained in aircraft that advance in complexity as you continue to progress through your ratings....

Most pilots today begin their training in a Cessna 152 or Piper Cub which average about $75 per hour plus and additional $40 dollars for an instructor...but that will vary with your location....My advice to you would be to work your way towards at least a CFI rating (certified flight instructor)....That way you can still log the hours you spend instructing, but get paid to do it...as opposed to having to pay for it.....I would expect to spend a minimum of 30-40k to get to a CFI or higher....

It may take a 3 or more years to get enough hours to be hired by an airline, and even then it will be a regional one....it will probably be at least a decade before you advance to a major airline, and several more before you become captain....

A career as an Airline Pilot takes a lot of time and sacrifice, but if its something you love..its worth it

You will not make a lot of money starting out....chances are the 15 year old kid taking your order at McDonalds makes more than you will as an entry level pilot...and you will probably be furloughed (laid off) a few times...and have to move around a lot to reach your goal....
