Should I use first person in a compare and contrast paper?
NEVER use 1st person for a formal essay. If this essay of yours was about personal experience (which it is not) then it may be okay, but for a formal essay...NEVER. The reader does not need to know that you have examined the two sources and it actually makes the essay sound to some extent unreliable. "You" have examined two sources, NOT an expert has examined two sources. What makes the reader place his reliability on you? Also, "I believe...", etc. makes what you stated into an opinion. If you want to convince the reader, state it as if for certain and as a fact.
