What Is The Logical Reason To Be Patriotic Why Is Patriotism A Positive Thing

What is the reason we should be a patriot?

Apologies in advance for spelling and punctuation, I’m not an educated man.Why would you not be a Patriot? This country has had many lives taken and continues to do so daily for our independence and individual freedoms. How can a Citizen not have gratitude for that point alone, much less knowing that this country will allow you to become whatever you want to do in your lifetime given you do the leg work?We can worship what we want and where we want. We can speak our minds without risk of imprisonment or torture. And the country is fully independent concerning natural resources. Is it perfect? Of course not, just google the the constitutional freedoms that our own citizens want to take away from us and see how the other democratic countries have faired from already revolking those rights. Its not a pleasant way of life. How could I not be a Patriot?

What's the difference between Radical Patriots and Conservative Patriots?!?

Depends on who is doing the labeling, that's all. The Founders were called radicals by the tyrannical British government that they opposed at the founding of the United States. Conservatives are called radicals now by the tyrannical, liberal United States government. So it depends on who is doing the labeling.

And if liberals like anything (besides sex and drugs, of course), it is labeling. Personally, I don't think being a radical is all that bad a thing; especially when the likes of George Washington and Patrick Henry were called radicals. I consider that being in good company.

Why are the southern states so patriotic?

You hear a lot of rednecks down south preaching at the top of their lungs how they love their country. I just don't see how that can be when most of them think the Civil War is still going on. Most southerners with tell you they hate the northern states. How can they call themselves patriots when they hate half of the country they line in?

Bonus question: Do you think it is more logical to love your own community rather than a huge country that consists of states you haven't even been to?

I just think people take the whole patriotism thing too far. I know half of you are going to call me all kinds of names, just don't expect to get Best Answer.

Do Americans have any idea their patriotism might be exaggerated from the point of view of foreigners?

That would largley depend on the American and the foreigners. Most Americans are patriotic to some extent or another. Americans tend to be more vocal in pretty much everything as well. If you have a American Canadian and German in the same bar the American is a safe bet to be the most vocal and outgoing. We tend to share our Opinions very consistently. To be honest I've seen basketball arguments in the us about where LeBron was going to land that were more vocal than anything I've ever seen outside the us. Americans are also very proud of our accomplishments which are pretty impressive to be honest. Americans think that putting men on the moon and largley beating the Nazis and beating the Japanese in WWII are things they deserve credit for, which we do. To get back to the point American patriotic things to someone from Iran or north Korea are very different than someone from France or Australia. Iran considers us religious infedells and north Koreans have seen propaganda every day for many decades about the evil empire so fixing those relationships is beyond my pay grade. Where as France and Australia are allied very closely with the us and despite the fact that we do have a few falling outs have a very large desire to see the us do as well as possible. So let me tell a story I was visiting my good friend in paris and brought nothing more that shirts with my teams logos and jerseys of my teams. In Boston you wear hockey jerseys 24/7 unless you have a job interview or something. Where as the Parisians dressed quite formal. It's a trifal at best but it is a interesting look at things. So I think the short answer is Americans are very outgoing, and proud inherently. Also keep in mind that the us produces the majority of movies and TV that the world watches and we get over represented all over the world. Also keep in mind that if someone is trying to make a political statement they want to be as ridiculously over the top as possible to get the most attention. 20 people yelling with signs and this and that look like a lot more than 20 people if they have a good cameraman.

In your opinion, what are the negative and positive aspects of patriotism?

The pros of patriotism:
-a sense of brotherhood with your fellow citizens
-the ability to foster in a patriot's mind the desire to help their fellow citizen
-the ability to maintain order

The cons:
-it is detrimental to any international brotherhood
-it can lead to fanatical and even violent ideas and behaviour
-it can leave certain individuals unable to look into national improvement due to a feeling that things are fine as they are and that things should be left well enough alone.
