What Is The Penalty For Driving A Car Using Other People Plate/tag But I Have My Car Registartion

What happens if you're caught driving with the wrong license plates?

Where I worked, this was called “fictitious plates or registration.” It was regarded as considerably more serious than driving without registration. If an officer found a car bearing plates registered to another car, his first suspicion would be that the car is stolen, because that is frequently the case. A smart car thief will steal a set of cold plates from a car of the same make and model, but most car thieves aren’t that smart. If you run the plates on a Ford and they come back to a Volkswagen, you start thinking, “stolen car.”If the officer thinks he is dealing with an occupied stolen car, he may conduct a high-risk stop, which is where everyone inside the car is brought out one at a time and proned on the pavement, at gunpoint. It will be an event you will not quickly forget.Less commonly, I would stop someone with fictitious plates, and they would tell me, “My plates expired, so I put these on it so I could drive it.” Having the wrong plates on the car might make it less noticeable to the cops, but the consequences of getting caught were considerably more grave. If you were driving a car with no plates or expired plates, we would write you a ticket for “registration required.” That was a $15 fine, and the court would almost always dismiss it if you got the car registered by the time you went to court. If you were driving a car with fictitious plates,The car would be impounded. The plates would be seized. You would get a ticket (or possibly be arrested) for driving with fictitious plates ($375 fine), and probably also for driving without insurance, because unregistered cars are seldom insured. The DMV would suspend the car’s registration, meaning there would be more hoops to jump through to get it registered. You might be on the receiving end of a high-risk car stop.Just get the car registered. It’s cheaper for everyone.

What happens if I never renew my car registration?

What happens if you never renew your registration:You will drive around like nothing has changed. One day, an officer will notice your expired registration or you will be stopped for speeding or running a stop sign, or you will get into an accident and the officer will see that you have an expired registration. You will then get a ticket for expired registration in addition to the other tickets he stopped you for. He might impound your car if you piss him off with an attitude. The judge will fine you for having an expired registration, the DMV will charge you for all back registrations and fine you a fee as well. In the end, it will cost you a lot more in time and fines than if you just paid the registration as you are supposed to.People who don’t pay their registration fees often don’t have the required insurance either. In that case you will also get a ticket and fine for not having the required insurance. If you are at fault in an accident, you will be personally responsible for the damage and injuries to the other parties in the accident.

Driving on Fictitious Plates state of Virginia???

I bought a truck and put plates on it to drive it to the DMV with the plates off of my other truck. Still Valid and registered.
Got to the DMV Saturday morning around 9:45. Around 10:40 security guard gets about 10 people in front of me and says " Everyone from here and back will have to come back Monday"
Bummed out I drive home from the DMV and one block away from my house I get a blue light special. Get tagged twice for No Inspection and Driving on Fictitious Plates.

Looks pretty serious. Class 2 misdemeanor with 6 months in jail and up to $1k in fines. Didn't think putting on plates from another vehicle would put me up there with Thieves and Prostitutes.
Got the Truck registered and Inspected the following Monday morning.
I've heard that if you show the judge proof that you've obtained registration that he'll probably throw it out.
Never ran into this type of problem, Anybody deal with this ? what type of trouble am I looking at?

What are the chances of getting caught with stolen registration sticker on license plate?

A buddy of mine couldn't afford this year's registration, so he took someone else's sticker off their plate and put it on his plate. Now I told him he's gonna get caught. I know (from personal experience) that cops have cameras or something on their car that can raise a red flag if a nearby motorist has expired registration tags. My question is, could they also be alerted if he had the stolen tags? Or would they actually have to pull him over for something else and find out from DMV that it's stolen? If he's caught (or when) what will happen to him? We're in L.A. County, California.

What happens if you get pulled over with expired registration in California?

You will get a minimum of $200 ticket for driving with an expired registration. A lot of it depends on how long your car registration is past its due date. If your vehicle has an expired registration for less than 6 months, it is considered a non moving violation but if it has a registration that has expired for more than 6 months, it is considered a moving violation and will add up your points on your DL ( Drivers license) and your insurance rates will go up.Your license plate can be suspended and you will be asked to renew your registration failing which you have to return your license plates to your local DMV .You would have the option to return the plates or pay up the penalty . Remember that vehicle registration and vehicle inspections are completely separate things. Many people forget it!. Some think they are done once they do their vehicle inspection and forget about the registration. You can also be pulled over ( although you will not be given a ticket) if you have expired registration stickers at the back of your car and not the new one. In the state of PA, they have done away with stickers and want you to keep your registration proof inside your glove compartment now.

If your car registration is paid but you forgot to put the sticker on the plate, is that illegal?

I had the sticker in my purse and forgot to put it on my plate 14 days after the old sticker expired. I had my new registration card. I received a ticket for $85.00 by the NIH police. I would like to contest this and wanted to know if it is even an offense to not have your sticker placed on the plate? I can't find anything on this, not even in the registration stuff I received after I paid. It says carry your card with you at all times but nothing like place the sticker on the plate immediately. Most police would cross reference with DMV and see that you are registered and give you a fix it ticket but not the NIH police... My car registration only cost $130 and the ticket $85. Just wondering if anyone else has any insights.

I know i've seen people with License plates of Pennslyvania, Texas and other states because there is a law but there's no law where I live that you HAVE to have a license plate on the front and the back. Please Help. Much appreicieted.

What happens when you drive with someone else plates?

I don't have plates on my car, and I'm thinking about borrowing my friends plates for the next week or so. I know it's illegal and a felony charge, but how easy is it to get caught with someone else's? As long as I'm not speeding or doing anything wrong on the road the cops would have no reason to pull me over and find out right? I don't know for sure, but if anyone does know how that type of thing works please let me know. Thanks.

If one has a new car with no plates, but temporary tags in the window, does that give cops PC for a stop?

I'm not to sure about California law in particular as I'm from North of the boarder. In most jurisdictions I'm aware of a peace officer has authority to stop any vehicle to check on the driver's operators license and the registration/proof of insurance of the vehicle at any time regardless of if the vehicle is displaying valid license plates or not. If a new car is being driven without plates there may be suspicion that the vehicle may be stolen and therefore an officer without being able to "run the plate" may wish to stop the vehicle to check it's status.
