What Jobs Are Available After Earning A Zoology Degree

Should I get a degree in Zoology?

I'm a senior in High school and deciding on my major next year. My dad wants me to get a degree in Computer engineering because of all the open jobs. However I'm just not interested in in computers or technology. Ever since I was a little kid I've always loved learning about biology. Especially Zoology and Evolution. I've read countless books on animals and animal behavior for years and I haven't lost any interest. I even volunteer at a Natural History Museum. I want to be able to get a degree were I can make a decent living off of, but also do something that I enjoy. Any job involving wildlife I'd be very happy doing. My dad will pay for my college education up to a bachelors degree. Is a Zoology degree a good idea? Also what job's are available with a Zoology degree?

Biology or Zoology Degree?

zori there isn't really any difference between the two. Some universities have only a biology department, while some will have the disciplines divided up into zoology, botany, micro, etc. And now there are molecular biology departments. What matters is the courses you take, and that will depend on what you are interested in. Being in a zoology department - or in a program where that is the department that will grant your degree shouldn't preclude you from taking courses in botany and micro, etc. In fact they may well insist on it. I have an undergraduate degree from a biology department, a master's from a bio department and a PhD from a zoology department. I studied whatever I wanted, didn't think about what the degree was going to say and nobody else did. When looking for a job, your coursework and experience will do the talking not the department or degree name.

Good luck - good to have another biologist/zoologist joining the team!

A vet tech/ vet assistants job with a Zoology degree?

You can apply for jobs with zoos, labs, government agencies, environmental consultant firms, non-profits, universities, museums, etc.
Most jobs also want experience, not just a degree. If you do not have experience you should look into internships or volunteer work with the above.
Possible job titles:
zookeeper
wildlife biologist
biological technician/aide
park ranger
game warden
wildlife rehabilitator
Sure you can apply for a vet assistant position, but for a vet tech position, some vets may want you to have completed a specific vet tech program. It would depend on the preferences of the vet hospital you apply to.

What are some jobs that involve zoology?

I'm talkin like every animal in the book, birds, mammals, marine life. it all interests me and i would love to do a job where i could learn a lot about them. not just a veterinarian i mean like wild animals all around the world
