What Jobs Can I Get With An Aerospace Engineering Degree And No Experience

Is aerospace engineering a good career path?

I would love to build advanced aircraft for a company or the government. Is aerospace engineering a good career path? What jobs can you get with a degree in aerospace engineering?

Please cite your experience and answers.

Thank you very much.

I want to major in Aerospace Engineering, but I want to go to USMA at the same time. A little advice?

you should definitely choose a major that you love. it's going to be what defines your career path (for the most part) for the rest of your life. you better choose wisely.

have you looked into the air force academy? the degree is just as prestigious as West Point, and they might have Aerospace Engineering.

just a note. as someone who had debated this many years ago, there's not much of a difference between aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineering. you can use any of these degrees to work in the aerospace industry. i have a BS in mechanical engineering and work in the defense industry. many of my friends from college work in the aerospace industry, and others work as city engineers. i decided on a ME degree because it's a little more broad and doesn't pigeon hole me into aerospace, rather allows me to choose what i want to do.

another note, the biggest thing that will determine what you will do for the rest of your life is the first 5 years of experience, which you will get through the military. hopefully you'll be getting experience doing something you really enjoy and when you leave/retire, you can continue doing that for the rest of your life and not hate it.

How to get a mechanical engineering job without experience?

My boyfriend graduated from Oregon Institute of Tech. approx. 2 years ago with his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and has been trying to get a job ever since. Most companies that he interviews with tell him that he has a great resume but they need someone with experience. He can not get hired because he has no experience, but he can not get experience if no one will hire him. It kills me to see the disappointment on his face when he gets the "thanks, but no thanks" e-mails from the companies he interviews with and I know it hurts his confidence and self esteem. Any advice helps. Thanks!

Air traffic controller with aerospace engineer degree?

Not really. Only a few are hired without specific training prior to hire.

Controllers get a specific degree, offered by only a few schools, that concentrates on the air traffic control system, not on how to design aircraft.

Google things like air traffic control school.

Edit:

These comments were for USA. According to Wiki, going into NATS as a trainee controller is the only way to get a controller position with NATS in the UK:

Here's the NATS' employment website:

Apparently NATS runs their own training academy. See what their requirements are. There are few other companies that run ATC, but most is NATS.

Since you are an engineer, there is another possibility: see about working for NATS as an engineer. You would be involved with developing and testing new equipment and procedures. They might even allow you to go through the training for the controller at engineer pay, rather than trainee pay.
