What Kind Of Worm Is This

What kind of worm is this?

There is a group of us staying in a college dorm and there are thin red worms in the showers. They are see-through and we are pretty sure they are some type of parasite. We've found two so far and they are about 2 inches in length.... any clue what they are?

Edit: They are really thin; thinner than spaghetti. For awhile we thought they were pinworms, but those are to small and not red (according to our research).

What kind of worm is this?

It sounds more like a slug than a worm, as true worms (annelids, nematodes etc.) do not have the feelers that you describe. Slugs, however, have a pair of feeler-like antennae, each of which is tipped with an ey, known as optical tentacles. Many species also have a dark line running along their back, known as a keel.

Slugs may enter homes, especially if the building is damp, and while they are not dangerous to humans or pets they can cause damage by eating wallpaper and other household items.

Here's a picture of several different species of slugs which, while representing only a small section of all the known species, gives a good impression of the various types. Did the "worm" you saw look anything like any of them? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

Now I've seen your extra information, I suspect it may be a millipede. While these look a little like centipedes they're very different in their habits, most notably in that the majority of species are herbivorous (whereas centipedes are carnivorous, hence their venom). Millipedes cannot bite or sting, so most species rely on their ability to coil themselves tightly as a defence mechanism. However, some types can emit poisonous or noxious substances to deter predators - while no species poses any threat to humans (even children), contact with one of the species able to do this can cause minor skin irritation in a few very sensitive people and, in very rare cases, minor skin cracking. Most of those that employ this mechanism emit hydrogen cyanide and can be easily identified by having a distinctive smell of almonds.

Hummmm..... Does it look like this?

If so, Then that is either a Petopia Worm or a Fly Larva/White Worm. They can kill the animal. So, I would take it to the Vet ASAP. My first dog in the world, Zeus, Had worms and he almost died. The Vet said he was a miracle because he only had a 10% chance of living!

Take your cat to the vet as soon as you can though. Tell him what you saw. You should've took a picture and show it to the Vet. Then he will test your cat if he has any more worms in him and if so, He will be treated. It may cost around 100$ but your saving your cat!

Wait for your cat to throw up again. If you see it again, DEFIENTLY take him to the Vet. If he dosent, I would still take him just incase. Because not all the time it comes out.

Dont be to worried. Its a 50/50 chance that something bad or something not bad is with your cat. Your cat could've just had one worm and he threw it up! But still, I would check it out.

I hope your cat is okay and makes it! Worms are deadly to animals and humans!!!

Good luck,
Julia :)

Worms in my dog?

hi guys ! I have a teacup Chihuahua and it gets worms, little white worms. we gave him worm medicine but he keeps getting them ! I read on here that they are born with worms and someone also told me that certain dog food can give him worms ! we feed him ( Beneful ) dog food. do any of you might know what all can give him worms ? I appreciate what you can tell me ? thanks guys !

How do you know what kind of worms your cat is infected with?

If your cat is vomiting worms she is extremely ill. You must get her to a vet immediately and take the worm with you. (They can tell what worm it is faster that way. If you don't have it, don't worry, but you have to get her to a vet.) Call around and get pricing if you have to but get her in fast. She is being starved of nutrients because the worms are eating all her nutrients. She will die painfully if not treated.Once treated, you will have to do one of two things:Get new litter boxes and litter. (Throw the old ones out.)OR … toss all the old litter and thoroughly clean the litter boxes then bleach them (soak them in a bathtub full of bleach water for 30 min and air dry).It is best to change out the litter boxes with throw away style ones while treating for worms, then replace these with the new or thoroughly cleaned boxes. (Cats can become reinfested with worms if they eat anything from their litter boxes. This includes them cleaning/licking their paws after leaving their box.)Please do what is right for your pet. If you really cannot afford treatment, do what is best for the animal and turn her into a no kill shelter (tell them about the worms so she gets immediate treatment).
