What To Do When Your Dog Is Limping After A Day At The Park

What do you do if your dog is limping?

I would recommend a trip to the vet.About five days ago I noticed one of our cats was limping. The back right leg was the affected one. He’s not the most graceful cat, and I didn’t see anything obvious, so I figured he might have just twisted his ankle or something. The next day he wasn’t limping as badly, but his foot and lower leg were swollen. My husband investigated (much to the cat’s disliking) and noticed a discolored area between his toes. It didn’t look that bad to me, but I know cats hide pain well and I didn’t want him to get an abscess or something, so I took him to the vet.He somehow had managed to slice open his foot between the toes. It was already pretty infected. They shaved and cleaned it, squeezed out a bunch of pus, and gave him two injections and pain meds to take at home. I’m supposed to take him for a recheck in a couple of days, and I’m thinking they might have to put him under and actually excise the dead tissue, because it’s still oozing a bit. We’ll have to wait and see.Anyway, when things get ignored, they often get worse. That’s the point of my story. If I’d taken him in right away, things might have been easier to treat.

My dog is limping after playing all day!!!?

I took my 3 year old german shepherd to the dog park for the first time and he loved it!!!! He was running around chasing other dogs just having a great time :) anyways after bringing him home i noticed a limp in his back leg when he walked then he was holding it up for a little bit, i checked his leg and no cuts, buts or sores, but he did start whining when i put a little pressure on his joint between his groin and hip, he doesn't usually run around that much so I'm not sure if he pulled a muscle or its something more serious. Its been 2 days and he hasn't been limping as much i gave him a coated Advil for the pain and he seems to be okay, he's 95 lbs (not fat) just big. But I've been around german shepherds all my life and very aware of their known hip problems. I need advice please help me

What can cause a dog's limping?

Dogs limp for many reasons. But, of course, what is causing your dog to limp is not so simple. Some reasons why your dog might be limping:- Overexertion. Dogs can over-exert themselves during a fetch session, rough play, or a run in the park can cause overexertion. Muscle soreness affects them just like us. In these situations, dogs will usually recover quickly.- Something Stuck in Paw. If your dog is limping or putting up his paw, it could be due to a laceration or having something stuck in between his paw, such as a burr, thorn, or even rock.- Animal or Insect Bites. Animal bites that are not infectious can also be dangerous because of the puncture wounds. If your dog has been bit by another dog on the leg, for example, this could injure the joints and cause limping.- Infection. An infected wound, incision, skin, or nail bed can cause pain and limping. Infections should be treated right away as they can worsen and become harder to treat.- Injury (Pain). Leg injuries are one of the most common causes of limping in dogs. Injury should be suspected if the onset of the limping was sudden. Sometimes the limping subsides in a day or two, and sometimes it persists if the injury is more serious. The only way is to examine it or take it to the vet. If the dog is in a lot of pain take it to the vet regardless. They will check for you!

My dog is limping after a trip to the dog park. He won't put weight on his back right leg.?

We've tried touching the leg, massaging it, and looking at his paws and he doesn't seem to be in discomfort other than that he's not putting weight on his leg. He seemed fine after exiting the dog park, but it's gotten progressively worse after waking up from a nap. Every time we touch it, he doesn't seem to mind. It Saturday night and no vet is open until Monday. Any ideas?
