What To Transport An Aquatic Turtle In

How do I transport my Red Eared Slider?

Dry but with a little wet newspaper or wet paper towel. I think cardboard boxes are best. You can close up the top to keep out drafts, but folded closed at the top there is still plenty of breathing air. Then when you get done with it you can stick it in the recycle or compost it.

Never transport in water. They can drown while taking a breath if the water sloshes even a little bit mid breath.

Try to keep the car at comfortable temp for you. That should be fine for the turtle.

How can I transport my pet turtles (red-eared sliders) from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai safely?

Red eared sliders can stay quite a while without water so you don't have to worry about that. I'm assuming your travelling by plane so you won't have to feed your turtle either since they can stay a few days without food. For transport I recomend a small container a little bigger than the turtle but not huge with padding on the bottom. Don't put anything with large threads so that their claws don't get stuck. Use something like paper towels or fine thread cloth to pad the turtle well and securely. Your biggest problem will be maintaining a good temperature since turtles depend entirely on ambient temperature to control their own. Keeping them cool is better than overheating so go with a cooler temperature (around 75°F or a bit lower. Don't keep them at temperatures lower than 72°F for extended periods of time as this will cause loss of apetite and respiratory problems) to be safe. Your turtles will be sluggish with this colder temperature. If in the container it's hot spray some water on the turtles and moisten the bottom padding. If it's too cold increase their padding and move them away from air conditioner. BE CAREFUL NOT TO RESTRICT AIRFLOW. In the container be sure to add enough holes for air ventilation. If the trip will be very long you can spray them with water and periodically open the box to allow more fresh air to come in. If time permits put them in a container with conditioned water so they can swim and drink. There is a lot more on the Internet which a simple Google search will show, but I hope this helps. Good luck!

Is a packaged mineral water good for an aquarium fish transport for one night? There are 2 small fishes and I need to travel the whole night and I don’t have any other water options.

Mineral water contains chemicals used for treating them hence not good at all.Simply try to reach any Aquarium sellers near by.Get a cane of 2 or more litters capacity.Ensure there is air passage on the cap and at the same time no spilage! Wrap the container with a damp cloth to keep the water at desired temperature till you reach your destination.carry/transport with out much of shakings as the trembling water may be frightening and discomforting to those little angels! Good luck!

What food do red-eared slider turtles enjoy eating, aside from pork?

A2A. As a bonafide Red-Eared Slider Turtle wrangler, I can tell you two things: 1) red-eared slider turtles love pork, but 2) red meats of any kind should be given to a Red-Eared Slider Turtle as a treat, not as a regular diet.Red-Eared Slider Turtles are omnivores. In their natural habitat, they primarily eat aquatic plants, worms, animal remains, fish, insects, and snails. As semiaquatic animals, they are flexible with their diet, and in fact, they get the "Slider" in their name from their ability to quickly slide off rocks and logs into the water!Because they don't eat red meat in the wild (could you imagine a Red-Eared Slider Turtle catching and killing a pig! Ha! What a world.), you should be careful when feeding your Red-Eared Slider Turtle meat and always feed them lean meat. Because let me tell you, those darned Red-Eared Slider Turtles will eat anything you give them! Can you believe it??Primarily though, you should be feeding your turtle greens (approximately 50-70% of its diet), along with some fish, worms, or small shrimp (get those jumbos out of here). Young Red-Eared Slider Turtles are more carnivorous than their adult counterparts, so it's okay to give them a more protein-based diet. The Red-Eared Slider Turtle is the most popular pet turtle in the US, so you can also find turtle food pellets at pet stores. Your pet turtle likely won't enjoy those near as much, but they are well-balanced and give your turtle the nutrients it needs!

What is the best way to transport red eared sliders?

We are moving across country and are planning on about a 3-4 day drive. We will be bringing our two res turtles with us in a car. I was thinking a few inches of water in a plastic bin with a spot to get out of water if they want but I have found conflicting stories whether this would be best or not. I am also planning on hooking up a basking light for them during the day. Any ideas or websites to view would be greatly appreciated.

Is owning a pet turtle or tortoise legal in Canada?

First things first — the legalities of pet ownership is defined at the provincial level.A question about the legality of turtles cannot be answered with the simplicity of a “yes” or “no” because it depends on the precise species, mainly around whether the species is “at risk”. There are separate federal and provincial laws that cover this. The Federal law is called the Canadian At Risk Species Act, 2002. Section 32 states:No person shall kill, harm, harass, capture or take an individual of a wildlife species that is listed as an extirpated species, an endangered species or a threatened species. No person shall possess, collect, buy, sell or trade an individual of a wildlife species that is listed as an extirpated species, an endangered species or a threatened species, or any part or derivative of such an individual. The federal government’s species list (available on their web site) currently lists a number of turtles: Leatherback Sea Turtle, Loggerhead Sea Turtle, Spotted Turtle, Blanding’s Turtle, Western Painted Turtle, Eastern Musk Turtle, Wood Turtle. The Pacific Pond Turtle is listed as extirpated, meaning that the government believes that this species is probably now extinct within Canada but may be found elsewhere. In Ontario, the Endangered Species Act of 2007, Section 9[1][b] states that:No person shall possess, transport, collect, buy, sell, lease, trade or offer to buy, sell, lease or trade, (i) a living or dead member of a species that is listed on the Species at Risk in Ontario List as an extirpated, endangered or threatened species, (ii) any part of a living or dead member of a species referred to in subclause (i), (iii) anything derived from a living or dead member of a species referred to in subclause (i) …The list of at-risk species, over and above the federal list, includes the Northern Map Turtle (endangered) and Eastern Box Turtle (extirpated).I’m leaving out some details for brevity (exceptions available for research purposes, accompanying the owner when moving to Canada, etc.), because I want to get to the most important thing: Unless you know your turtle species, do -not- take a turtle in from captivity. This may be illegal.Any turtle you purchase at a pet shop in Canada should be fine.

Turtles: What is the best tank size and configuration for Red Eared Sliders?

The general recommendation for tank size, which no doubt you've read, is as follows: [1]A general guideline is to find the adult size of your turtle and multiply the turtle's adult length by 5. That's how long the aquarium will need to be and will give your little friend plenty of room for doing laps.Take their adult length and multiply by 2.5 and that'll be how deep your water should be. This gives them plenty of room to move about freely and get some exercise, as well as allow you to place a basking area half way up and prevent your turtle from trying to escape. They are great climbers! For two turtles, no need to double the size--adding about an extra 1/3 should be sufficient. [1]Now, you can decide to get a tank that is appropriate for their size now, with the knowledge that before long you'll be upgrading; or you can accommodate for their adult sizes right off the bat and not worry about changing things later. So, for your Red-Eared Sliders, adult males are between 7 and 9 inches long, and adult females are between 10 and 12 inches long. [2] (Easiest way to sex a turtle is with the front feet: males have long nails and females' nails are close to the same length on all four feet. See image below. [3])Assuming both are small males, you'd need a tank 48" long and 24" high, which most closely matches a 65-, 75-, or 90-gallon tank. [4] If both are large females, at most you'd need a tank 80" long and 40" high, which is up in the 150- to 180-gallon range. [4] A good, safe medium would probably be a 150-gallon tank, which typically is 72"L x 18"W x 28"H. [4] (Wider tanks (often called "breeder" tanks) are good for turtles because they provide back-to-front space for them to turn around, which fish don't need.)As for configuration, to maximize swimming area as well as basking/dry area, my favorite is the suspended beach model. Here are some good examples (the last one is mine):Feel free to refer to the other information on the referenced sites below, or ask more questions here, or send me a personal message for follow-up.-- References --Turtle Care: Housing http://www.austinsturtlepage.com... Can we legally pet a turtle or tortoise in India?

Yes you can, but be aware that there are very few breeds which you can keep as legal pets in India and they all need a lot of care and maintaince, irrespective of general opinion and belief. Also you can not keep any animal as a pet if it's natural habitat is in the Indian wilds. That means you can not keep any turtle or a tortoise or any other exotic animal which is native to India. Here are a few turtle breeds you can keep legally:Red eared slider (which BTW are absolutely cute and my personal favorites! Cleaning a dead turtle's tank?

My turtle, i think, has been dead for about a week. i haven't had ANY time to clean him out. I've gotten rid of the body and all but, i don't know how i should clean the tank. I've been thinking about getting a fish in the same tank but, now the water is probably to nasty. How am i supposed to disinfect it? I wouldn't want to get salmonella or something.. Also, if you could tell me how to transport my tank if needed. I live in the country so i could dump it outside. i have an outside cat. I want to clean it asap.
