What Us Typhoid Igm Positive

Why do IGG and IGM test positive on a typhoid test?

The production of IgM antibodies shows the fresh infection with salmonella spp and the IgG appears after the immune response. IgM antibodies may disappear gradually from the circulation IgG will stay a longer time. They can be differentiated from acute, chronic or reinfection. The diagnosis is made with the titer of the antibodies which gives the agglutination.

What do typhoid IgG and IGM positive mean in tests?

With any infection IgM class of antibodies indicate recent or new infection and IgG class indicate probable old infection whose memory was retained in the body and also immunization. However paired serum samples showing increase in IgG class of antibodies also can indicate current infection.Same goes for Typhoid. The most commonly used serological test for Typhoid detection has been Widal since very long time. Unfortunately it does not differentiate between class of antibodies but with high antibody titres it can indicate an active infection and later fall in antibodies can show resolving infection but it lacks the early detection advantage as body needs some time to make these antibodies in sufficient numbers to give desirable high titres that help confirm the clinical diagnosis of clinician.other supplementary tests are now available for separate detection of IgG and IgM antibodies in Typhoid, though these tests supported by results of blood cultures and/or Urine and Stool cultures stand a better chance of confirmed diagnosis of enteric fever.

Is typhoid (IGM positive) contagious?

Typhoid is contagious, and a positive IgM test means a recent and probably a current infection (a positive IgG means that the person was infected some time ago.) That would suggest a positive IgM would mean a person was contagious, although there it’s debatable how accurate these tests are. Some of these tests are unreliable and can easily miss typhoid infections; some will even show positive results in an uninfected person. The more reliable test is a blood culture, although many labs are not equipped to do those. You can read more about typhoid and how to not get it (regardless of the IgM test result) here: Typhoid fever - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic

Why am I typhoid IgM positive when I do not have any symptoms of typhoid fever?

The full form of IgM is Immunoglobulin M. Immunoglobulin is antibody which fights against foreign invaders. In medical term, this foreign invaders is called antigen. The suffix M indicates any attack or infection which lasts only 7 to 15 days. The Typhidot (IgM) test may be positive but it does not always mean that you will surely victimized because our body has an own defense system that is called Immunoglobulin or antibody which fights immediately against antigen. This is a fight-or-flight response game. When antigen is stronger than antibody the symptoms of disease is exposed otherwise the symptoms subsidies. In your case, a typhoid germ attacked you but it didn't supersede the antibody. That's why, you have typhoid IgM positive though you don't have any symptoms of typhoid fever.

What does a positive IgM and negative IgG mean for a typhoid diagnosis?

It indicates recent active typhoid infection. In our term we call it an 'acute infection'.

What happens when IgM (Antigen) typhoid is positive?

IgM antibody signifies that your body recently fought off an infection or is fighting one. Each IgM antibody is unique to that particular disease. From body's perspective - IgM antibody is the largest type of antibody in the blood. A couple of them are enough to kill one virus or bacterium or fungus,if not maim them. It is the most potent tool in the fight against infections. But unfortunately mass production all the time is not possible. It is not feasible. So what the body does is that it stops the production when there is no more infection or when the infection has become chronic. It switches to other antibodies. So, we physicians utilize this to understand whether your body just fought off an infection or recently fought one. Helps us treat you better.

Chlamydia IGG test is positive, but IGm is negative. WHat does that mean?

IGm is the acute reactive or like the messenger antibody that is produced in the new presence of a recognizable virus or bacteria. In this case the specific IGm for Chlamydia was positive. The body then produces the IGG antibody. Think of this as a long acting antibiotic for the body. It slowly rises and falls. As an example. We receive the tetanus bacteria immunization as a child. Our bodies first develops the IGm antibody and subsequently the IGg. It is the IGg antibody that gives us the long term protection against contracting the disease with reexposure. However, over time our IGg falls at individual variable rates. Because of that people who have environmental/occupational exposures to the tetanus bacteria are encouraged to receive a booster.

If you have positive IgG and negative IgM does this mean you are safe from dengue?

Mmm. Tricky.Positive IgM tests for acute infection. However, if it is your first infection you will develop IgG antibodies after the first week. So, it depends when you took this test. IgM is detectable on the 5th day of fever onset and peaks around the 7th day. Was the test taken within this time frame? If it was taken earlier than the 5th day and later than the 7th, then you run the risk of getting a false negative result—not exactly what you want. So, I’d double check that negative IgM, just to be sure!Usually, though, a negative IgM and a positive IgG would indicate that you currently do not have the dengue infection, but you were infected in the past and made it through like a champ.Good luck!
