What were President Nixon’s successes and failures from 1968 to 1974?
Success: Nixon went to China, he formed the EPA, he ended the draft and began the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Vietnam, he limited nuclear arms in treaties with the Russians and he balanced the budget. Failure: He took the U.S. off the gold standard causing stagflation later in 70's, he went to China (which caused the Chinese take over of the 21st century), he started the EPA, he ended the draft, he lost the war in Veitnam, and finally there was the Watergate cover up. Depending on your political slant Nixon was a very successful president or a total douchebag. Personally I like him, politically I'm not entirely wild about him even though he makes modern day republicans look like a bunch of amateurs. If not for the Watergate scandal Nixon would have gone down in the history books as a very successful president who shaped the republican party for future generations. What we ended up with was Ford the flop, Carter the disaster, and then the great communicator/con man Ronald Nelson Reagan who became the seminal republican figure who shaped party politics well into the 21st century. If Ronald Reagan is all these idiots have to look to as a role model then god help us all the United States is screwed!!! Nixons failures provided an inroad to the white house for frauds such as Reagan and the Bush bunch and just look at where they left us. Out of control military industrial complex, wide open borders and economic collapse. Nixon was a true gentleman compared to the rest of the republicans who followed him and he cared about America instead of his cronies bottom line. Young republicans need to study Richard Nixon and try to figure out how to fix their party by following the template he laid out for them. He was not just a crook. Just a few rambling thoughts.
