Which is better, a fast food job or a retail job?

Either job will require you to work weekends and most holidays. They also provide few benefits. Fast food jobs will get you dirty and any discount you receive will only go towards unhealthy food. Fast food jobs have less opportunity for advancement because the majority are franchises. Many retail stores will likely go out of business in the future as more consumers shop online. Amazon will continue to put companies out of business like Netflix did to the Mom and Pop movie rental stores back in the day. If you have to pick between those two choices I would advise you choose retail but pick a big company to work for. Also, make sure you choose a retail company in which you would actually use the discount. I know a few people who have become incredibly successful in retail. However, I would not advise you to make a career out of it and instead would advise you go to college (pick a job you love once you graduate), join the military (you will get free college and extra points for government jobs) or go into a trade (you can make good money and get lots of benefits). The bad thing about retail is no matter how far you climb the ladder of success you are always stuck working most holidays. That is the main reason I left Target; I didn't want to miss the fireworks on the 4th of July or get stuck working the day after Thanksgiving for the rest of my life.

Working at a McDonald’s next to the interstate at the first exit in Florida, we often had charter buses stop. However, one summer day in 1999, 5 buses pulled into our parking lot. A man in khaki shorts and a polo shirt walks out of the bus, straight to me at my register and says, “I’m here to pick up the order for 150 Happy Meals. The manager said you can’t take a credit card, so we stopped and got a traveler’s check.”I stared back at him blankly, until he realized I had no idea what he was talking about. He then asks me to speak to the manager, whom he talked to a few hours ago.Long story short, he had called the McDonald’s off of I-75, not the McDonald’s off of I-95 which is where we were.He decided to have us make the Happy Meals. We closed the drive thru and put a sign up at the door. Everyone took a station in the kitchen with one task. We knocked them out pretty fast, but it seemed like an eternity.I still feel so bad for the restaurant at I-75 with their 150 Happy Meals that were never picked up.

I still remember the Diwali holidays in 2014 and specially remember 22nd October 2014. So we had decided to go to our aunt’s place. It was a family get together and we planned to play cards. My brother decided to order 4 small pizzas from Dominos and my servant requested a large pizza for him and his friends. So my brother placed the order( the bill was supposed to be for Rs.1200 approx) and within 30 minutes the order arrived. Now I went to open the door and I saw the pizza delivery guy with many small boxes of pizza. I thought he brought more boxes as the people staying at the 2nd floor in our building must have ordered as well. But to my shock when I took the 4 small and 1 large box, he said “Sir this all is yours as well”. I was expecting 4 small and 1 large box but I was given 16 small pizza boxes and 1 large pizza box.I told him that my brother had placed an order of just 4 small and 1 large box. He showed me this bill and the bill just had 4 small and 1 large box. I told him “Sir you see the bill yourself, these 12 small extra boxes are not there”. He said “I dont know, just take this order, I have to rush back. Its festive time and I dont want to argue with you on this”. I said “But its not my order. I will not pay for it. Its up to you now”. He said “But who is asking you to pay for it. You have a bill of Rs.1200 and thats all that you have to pay”. I said “Fine, I will take it and if you come back, I wont give the remaining boxes to you”. He agreed and left. I asked my servant to help me bring the boxes inside the house and I checked all of them. To my amazement, all boxes had pizzas. All had vegetarian pizzas, some had plain cheese pizzas that I just love. My mom was in total shock and she was calling my cousins to tell what had happened. I called Dominos and told them that there was some mistake. They refused to accept their mistake and instead told me “Sir just take it and forget that something like this ever happened”. We were totally baffled at what had happened but thanked God for such a surprise during the festive season.I remember we had a hard time finishing them and literally had to call people and asked them to come and pick up boxes to take away.I wish such miracles happen again as well :PEDIT 1: Phew!
