Whats The Difference Between A 5 And 6 Speed

Whats the difference between 3-speed 4-speed 5-speed 6-speed manual transmission?

Distance in gear ratios and price. A 3 speed will have more distance between gear sets meaning you will stay in a gear longer. Most of your custom built race cars, rebuilds and street rods use 5 or 6 speed transmissions but they also cost around $2,000. A 3 speed will have 2 regular gear sets and an overdrive gear set, 4 has 4 regulars and an overdrive 5 has 5 and an overdrive and so on and so on.

What's The Difference Between a 5 and a 6 speed Toyota Supra?

The difference between a 5-Speed and a 6-Speed won't make that big of a difference in most applications. Supras aren't exactly the cream of the crop in drag racing, or autocross. So 5 or 6 gear transmission won't affect you by a drastic amount in racing, drifting, or just general acceleration.

What's the difference between a 4-speed Automatic and an Automatic transmission?

A 4-speed automatic transmission is an automatic transmission.

It's a transmission with 4 speeds that shift automatically.

Asking this is like asking "What's the difference between a 32" TV and a TV?"

What is the difference between a 2-speed and a 6-speed CVT transmission?

There are 2 types that I’m aware of. Yes, one has 2 ranges that it shifts between automatically which is used in some mini-cars like the FIT, IQ and the Spark and I think it’s made by Aisin. It’s helpful for starting off with a low torque engine. CVTs don’t usually have a wide range of ratios available. All the others, as far as I know, offer just a single range and have no gears as such but rather a v-belt shaped “chain” between “pulleys” much like those use on some scooters only in a oil bath case. There may be some kind of indexing if there is a manual override, but there are no gears as such.

Whats the big difference in 5 speed manual vs. 6 speed auto?

i wanted to know the difference between a 5 speed manual vs. a 6 speed auto? which one is faster in taking off, which one has better gears/ratio, which one accelerates faster, is there a difference at all in driving besides changing gears with hand and gears automatically being changed. Please give me some good info....

i am trying to pick my next car but i just cannot decide what transmission is best.

i know how to drive both perfectly and i wouldn’t get tired in traffic with a manual; so help me please. it could be an Evo X but i still don't know.

i need some good detailed info and specs on the two transmissions...

What is the difference between a 4 speed manual and a 6 speed manual?

Let's start with an automatic transmission. When you start from a stop, as you accelerate from zero to let's say about 15 mph, you will notice that your car progressively gets louder and higher pitched sounding. You'll also notice that your tachometer (RPM gauge on the dashboard) increases. This is gear #1. It provides the most torque to your car's wheels in order to get it moving quickly from a stop, yet as your speed increases, your engine turns faster to keep your car accelerating.Once you get going, your car will shift into second gear. Second gear is “longer” than first, meaning that you can go faster than first gear at the same RPM (revolutions per minute, or engine speed), but you get less torque (can't accelerate as fast). This will repeat when your engine speed reaches a certain point, controlled by the car's computer, and you will go into third gear, and so on and so on until you reach your top gear and can't shift higher any more.In a manual, instead of the computer shifting for you, you have to manually shift from first to second, once you reach a target speed/RPM, necessitating the shifter in the middle of the car that you see the driver moving back and forth as they accelerate/decelerate. Saying that a car has a “3 speed” manual or “6 speed” manual is just describing how many different gears are in the car. Remember that first gear is used for starting from a stop because it provides the most power to the wheels, but you can't go very fast, and your highest gear is used for driving at high speeds but not accelerating quickly. So if you have a 6 speed manual transmission, you shift a total of 5 times from 1–6 while accelerating. To sum it all up:Having more “speeds” or gears in a manual (or automatic) transmission means you can drive faster at a lower RPM (engine speed).A car's engine can rotate at different speeds, but gets better fuel economy at lower engine speeds, thus meaning the more gears a car has, the slower the engine will spin while driving at highway speeds, meaning you get better gas mileage. That last point is the real reason manufacturers put more gears into cars. My 5-speed truck will go just as fast as your 10 speed car, but the engine will have to work harder and therefore get worse mileage. Hopefully I didn't over explain that

What is the difference between a 5speed manual and a 6 speed manual?

It's easy to get used to. The difference is the gears are shorter. It's like carrying a long piece of wood. You can cut the wood up into 5 pieces, or 6 pieces. Either way you are still carrying the same amount of wood, it's just how much work it takes to carry it. a 6 speed is more work for the driver (for obvious reasons) but less work for the engine to get your up to speed, 1-2nd are aggressive in an RSX, so you get the engine wound up to the higher RPM (power band) a lot quicker, and you can use more of the engines output more efficiently. so yes, it's easy to get used to, and yes, it's better than a 5 speed. (5 speed is better in a car with a smoother torque curve and more overall torque) because it can carry the car throughout the entire gear, whereas most older 5 speed honda's a gutless until they hit vtec engagement, usually around 4-6k depending on engine size. With a 6 speed, you'll get more "pull" because the gears are shorter.

Differences between 5 speed automatic vs 6 speed automatic?

The 6 speed will generally have a slightly lower top gear then the 5 speed so it will get better freeway mileage. In town they will be about the same. But for spirited driving and general passing acceleration the 6 speed will be slightly better. But the difference really isn't all that great. Now compare a 4 with a 6 and the gap gets much bigger.

What is difference between 4-speed automatic 5-speed automatic 6-speed automatic car?

More gears means somewhat smoother shifting, better gas mileage and acceleration. But the rule of thumb is: a good 4-speed is always better than a bad 6-speed.
