When An Infant Is Healing From A Circumcision

How long does a circumcision take to heal?

I wasn't asking for everyones opinions; all I wanted to know was information post-operation. I am in the medical field and know all the pro's and con's. I know what it entails. If you choose not to with your son, that's your choice. But it's something I want done with mine. So please just answer the question, nothing else.

How long does it take for an infant to recover from male circumcision?

It somewhat depends on the style of circumcision.Using the plastibell, the bell is left on the penis until the foreskin drops off a few days to about a week later. With various clamps, the foreskin is excised when the blood supply to the foreskin has been stopped. The recovery also takes a week to 10 days.Freehand circumcision also requires a recovery period of a week to 10 days, generally.Note, infants heal quickly, compared with circumcision performed on an adult, which often has a recovery period measured in months.Another reason to circumcise the infant. Done with appropriate anesthetic and post operation analgesic, the infant feels very little pain, if any. He remembers nothing and proceeds through life with a lower probability of a large number of penile diseases or infecting his partner and statistically having a superior sex life. Some attempt to dissuade the parents by citing outlier studies that purport to show the foreskin is the center of a man’s sexual enjoyment. These studies have been thoroughly disproved by multiple authors (including the AAP) and are now considered junk science. The consensus of multiple studies is that statistically there is no difference in sensation or enjoyment, with a trend in the latest studies to show an improvement in sensation and enjoyment for the lucky circumcised babies when they mature. I rather doubt it that Jews and Muslims would have practiced wholesale circumcision on their boys if they became stunted sexually compared to their uncircumcised brethern. The parents provide informed consent because they believe it in his best current or future interests. If he waits until the age of majority where he can provide adult informed consent, the operation is more expensive, there are statistically more complications, it interrupts his life. The research clearly shows the optimum time for circumcision is as an infant and it is better for the boy/man, his future partners, and society as a whole.

What can I do if my sons circumcision healed wrong?

He is 3 months old now. But ever since day 1 after being circumcised I have pulled the extra skin back that was left for growing and cleaned around the base of the head. Now it seems that the skin has healed to the base of the head, and will not pull back any more. I let my husband decide if our son should be, or shouldn't be, because my husband isn't. He didn't want him feeling embarrassed because kids tease in school, and most boys are.
Now I feel like I may regret it. I know there is nothing I can do now! BUT I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it has presented any problems. His doctor checks it every check-up and has never said a word about it.
You can see most of the head of the penis, its just the very bottom that isn't visible. Should I be worried, or will this fix itself in time?

Can you use A D ointment for circumcision??

The hospital will probably send you home with vaseline to apply for the first week. Otherwise ask a nurse if it is okay to apply.

How long does it take for the baby's penis to heal after circumcision?

Hi Jane!

No need to panic! Old dad here with two sons (20 and 18).

Our boys came first and then our daughter. Boys are so much easier to care for than little baby girls!

Yes, breastfeeding is the same. One of our sons we used to call "sharkie" because of the way he aggressively went for milk... but you know.... that's not a gender related trait... babies all have their own little individual chacteristics... they are immediately real little people! It's fascinating!

As for circumscision, my sons are not. We simply never had a good reason to do it. They never had a problem and caring for them in terms of keeping stuff clean is no different. Its a really good idea to help settle them by bathing at a regular time.... just before dinner and bed I suggest... play with your baby in a baby bath or you can even get in a bathtub too (Get hubbie to help - they can be slippery when wet.. .lol) And our babies loved playtime every evening in the bathtub where their legs are free to kick.. the soaking really does minimise the risk of any infection.

You neednt do anything about a babies foreskin. It doesn't retract. When they get a bit older they tend to explore and boys figure out for themselves that their foreskin moves... when they are old enough to understand... you know around 5 or so you can tell them to wash their glans just like you would tell them to wash behind their ears. Really, compared to little girls, little boys are a breeze. Im sure our daughter was born with a broom which at 16, she now flies to school upon.

How long does circumcision take to heal for an adult?

An adult circumcision takes 6-8 weeks to fully heal whereas an infant's circumcision is usually fully healed in a week. This is one of the reasons why it is a good idea to circumcise infant boys.

Normal activities, except heavy lifting, gym, sport and swimming can usually be resumed after a few days. Intercourse should be avoided until fully healed but gentle masturbation can often be resumed after a month.

Nocturnal erections will, naturally, cause more problems for an adult than they wold for an infant. There are techniques to reduce their effect described in the Post-Operative Care advice booklet to be found at http://www.circinfo.com/post-op_care/car...

Advice on preparing for an adult circumcision is at http://www.circinfo.com/preparation/prep... and your friend would be well advised to read these booklets.

Since your friend has phimosis he really needs to be circumcised since it is the only sure, immediate and guaranteed permanent cure for phimosis. It is a pity though that the phimosis was not recognised by the time puberty started and cured then, when it would have been quicker, cheaper and faster healing.

How do I know if my son is healing properly after being circumcised? Anyone know of any sites with photos?

If your son was mutilated for "religious beliefs" it would not have been done by an OB. Hospital /medical "circumcisions" do not count as "religious".

There is no "religion" that requires a hospital "circumcision". Religious mutilations are special rituals, not medical procedures, so drop that stupid reason for mutilating your son.

This is an amputation they do not "heal" they scar over, they are worse than any of the horrible things they are supposed to prevent. Your son would have to have the world's worst infection to be any where as bad off as he is from this surgery, and guess what if he did have that infection he could get antibiotics just like a girl would. And girls get those infections ten times more often than compete boys do.

How do I deal with diaper rash and circumcision?

My son is 5 days old and has a diaper rash. His circumcision is also still healing so I have to have the gauze with vaseline on his penis so he doesn't touch it. Whenever I change him he squirms alot, screams and sometimes even poops, all at the same time. Letting him air out/air dry is impossible. I use cotton balls with warm water. Try to change him as much as possible(sometimes twice in a matter of minutes). I do dab dry him with a washcloth but he still feels damp. I also use desitin. I can be brought to tears changing him. Any suggestions on the diaper rash and or making changing him easier?
