When Can I Change My Helix Piercing

My helix piercing still hurts when I change my earring after a year and a half. What should I do?

You are probably aggravating the cartilage by messing with the piercing. If you're not getting infections, and the pain goes away, there's nothing wrong. But if you're ever in doubt I recommend contacting your piercer. You can also have your piercer change your jewellery - they might cause less irritation. They may charge a small fee (my piercer charges $5), but I highly recommend tipping as well, based on your means and the quality of your experience. I always tip jewellery changes based on a 1 to 5 quality rating scale. 5 out of 5 deserves a $5 tip, 4 out of 5, a $4 tip, and so on.If the piercing continues to hurt after changing jewellery, contact your piercer. They may have some ideas. If it gets red; warm; leaks blood, fluid, or pus; or you get a fever, go to your doctor or an urgent care or ER right away. Infections can go bad fast and need to be addressed.

When can I change my Helix piercing?

Not at 4 weeks that's for sure! No piercings should be changed until they're fully healed (with the exception of down/upsizing if absolutely necessary). Helix piercings take 6-12 months to fully heal (if done with a needle like it should have been) and a minimum of one year+ if done with a gun. You need to wait until it's healed before removing or changing it. While your piercer should have put in a longer bar to start with, you don't need "wiggle" space, it's just to accommodate swelling so if there's no swelling, it's not a problem.

How long until I can change my helix piercing?

It has been 8 weeks since I got the top of my ear pierced (helix/cartilage) and I haven't changed it yet, I still have the original piercing in, which is longer than the normal ones to account for swelling. I cleaned it twice a day with salt water for about a month, now I only clean it when its looking crusty. It doesn't hurt anymore, and moves more freely.
Do you think it would be fine for me to change it for a spiral piercing now or is it still too soon?

Can I change my helix piercing to a ring after 9 weeks of piercing it?

Check with your piercer to see how it's going, but if you ask strongly enough, they put the real jewelry you wanted as a starter. That was my case. I had a single helix pierced with a stud on both ears and went to get the studs changed for rings and to get a second helix underneath. The piercer directly put another ring as a starter on the new ones, and although it has made healing a bitch, I love the look.

Is it ok to change a helix piercing to another stud after 4 weeks of it being done?

Please do not change out your initial piercing so soon. A helix piercing needs a lengthy amount of time to heal and settle. Initial jewelry can sometimes not be the most attractive, but it's very important to not cause undue trauma to this healing piercing. Six months has been the earliest jewelry in cartilage can be changed out as this connective tissue in the body has the slowest healing time due to a lack of blood flow directly into it.When you do want to change it out, for the first time go see your piercer. And changes for the first year or two shouldnt be constant. Find something you enjoy and wear it all the time.
