Where Can I Buy A Skull Cap Motorcycle Helmet

What do u do about your long hair or afro when u wear a motorcycle helmet?

A do-rag. I still style my hair when my husband & I go riding, to keep it from getting blown & tangled, I tuck it all under a do rag & then strap my helmet on like always. My helmet is one size larger than I would normally wear, but with all my hair up in, it fits perfectly!

Good luck!

What is the function of the small motorcycle helmet?

There are four basic types of motorcycle helmets sorted by coverage of the head:Full Face:3/4:Half:and Skull cap:The function of each type of helmet is to protect what lies under the helmet. As you can see, the skull cap and half helmets provide the least amount of coverage to the head and the 3/4 helmet covers all but the chin and lower facial area that the full faced helmet covers. In areas that have a helmet law, in the US, a DOT approved skull cap or half helmet will suffice to cover the helmet law. Many people wear these in place of a full face helmet where they are required by law to wear a helmet. For some, wearing a helmet with less coverage might be a protest move - I have to wear a helmet because the law says so, but I’m not going to wear one that actually offers full head coverage. For some, the 1/2 or 3/4 helmets are just more comfortable - they don’t like being confined in a full face helmet.

What is you favorite motorcycle helmet? Full face/modular/open face/half skull?

I only wear Arai helmets. In my opinion, they are they best helmets in the world. Arai’s RX7 is the only helmet in the world to meet both the stringent SNELL and the ECE standards. It is the most popular helmet on the grid of the Isle of Man TT races, where there is no run-off so, if a rider crashes, he’s likely to hit a wall, a house, a tree, or fly off the side of a rocky hill.I do feel that Shoei helmets are up there on quality too but Arais fit my head the best - putting one on feels like I’m wrapping my head in a duvet.I have 5 Arais at the moment with another couple planned this year. The one pictured below is the Arai Chaser V Pride. All Arai helmets are hand-made and the Arai RX7 you buy in the shop is identical to the one worn by Dani Pedrosa or Jonathan Rea - Arai don’t make special, extra-strong helmets for their world championship racers and then sell cheap replicas to the public like most manufacturers as they don’t believe one person’s head is more valuable than anothers. They also stick to their guns and don’t follow when other manufacturers go down a particular route, despite how popular it may be with the public. For instance, they don’t make flip-up helmets or ones with internal sun-visors because these compromise the structural integrity of the helmet.Arai makes its helmets to have as round an outer shell as possible as this shape glides off bumps better than something with sharper edges, which are liable to catch and cause more injuries.

Do you need a full face helmet for a sports bike?

Reguardless of the bike you ride, you need to understand the risks. Helmets, as you probably know, range from pointless “skid lids” to full face. Any helmet is better than no helmet, BUT.This is a helmet made by Icon that shows the percentages for where head strikes occur according to bike crash studies.Notice where most strikes occur. I wear a full face helmet no matter the bike. It's not a style choice, it's protection.

Can a common bicycle helmet protect your head from an impact better than a motorcycle helmet?

Despite the protestations of the ATGATT contingent that I’m sure to get - it depends.Mostly it depends on the type and style of bicycle helmet. Not all are those little skull cap types. Some look remarkably similar to full face. Some even have face shields ( you know, to protect you from the occasional butterfly)It also depends on the type of riding you do. Track racing will demand the stricter compliance Snell rated helmets.Obviously the hard outer shell of a DOT helmet will give some additional protection. Most people assume motorcycle helmets are rated for higher speed because that seems logical, but it only shows that the average person doesn’t understand how helmets are tested and certified in general i.e. most motorcycle helmet standards use impacts at speeds between 9 and 16 MPH.It’s also worth noting, in my home state of Tennessee it is actually legal to substitute a bicycle helmet for a motorcycle helmet. This was a concession made to the ABATE group a few years ago. Hardly anyone wears them though because they’re bulky and just kind of funky. All that said, I choose to wear a full face motorcycle helmet over a bicycle helmet for many reasons, but mostly for comfort. Also when I leave my state I don’t want to figure out what other states have similar laws.

What is the purpose of a skull cap?

It started as a way to keep hairdo's from being messed up when you put a hat on and take it off.

Then, it progressed to something that is functional for athletes and works as a sweatband/wicking layer to pull sweat off players heads and make donning a helmet easier.

What is the use of skull cap for bikers?

In my personal experience, Skull caps help in preventing hair damage to a significant extent. When your helmet moves due to your movements while riding, the inner surface of the helmet rubs against your scalp. This is akin to mildly pulling your hair while roughing it up at the same time. Wearing your helmet for extended periods or use in hot/humid areas leads to a lot of sweating which only worsens the situation. The constant roughing up of your hair, especially when sweaty would cause hair damage leading to hair fall.Use of the Skull Cap:Using the skull cap serves 2 purposes:Absorbs the sweatMost skullcaps (for helmets) are made of cotton or other absorbent materials. They help in absorbing your sweat and thus reduce the impact of the roughening of hair.Acts as buffer between your hair and the inner-surface of the helmet. This ensures that during the helmet movement the friction is between the cap and the helmet inner surface, instead of with your hair. This greatly cuts down on hair damage. Very significant difference. So, if you are riding for any duration more than 10 min, I’d recommend you wear a skull cap before putting on your helmet. It would go a long way in preventing hair damage.PS: I do not own either of the images. They are for illustrative purposes only.
